I'm new here, but who came up with PIP anyway?

Before my BI (Brain Injury for those who are uninitiated) I was receiving DLA - ad infinitum for epilepsy - these two facts are not particularly linked but they are bad timing, as I got my BI during surgery to 'cure' my epilepsy, I had to apply after surgery and then went to the PIP assessment meeting after completing the initial form, in effect I applied for PIP for a BI and epilepsy as the surgery failed. I couldn't believe that I received a total points value of '0', according to my assessor I was perfectly capable - a bit disturbing to say the least, although I agree that I am not entitled to the revised assumption of the mobility component, when I completed the form online with the same answers I would have been enhanced on living. Could Atos be doing things on the cheap? or have they been instructed just to grant a limited amount of applications?

I was receiving DLA and had it taken away when PIP started.I've applied for PIP 4 times and Capita have dealt with it. Each time I was refused. Each time the refusal letter was the same giving 0 points except for hearing where I was given 2 points out of 12 possible. What I'm told is I'm able to look after myself. I can because I have to. I live alone, 63yrs old, epileptic, 3 brain injuries, heart disease. I've applied for a tribunal and yesterday received a wad of paperwork ( over 300 pages), no doubt another barrier as it says nothing. Good luck, I think we'll need it. Dave

That's why I don't want to have the stress of applying for it because I don't look disable so I know I wont get it

Cripes, he said looking for a suitable 'shocked' word which tried to get over the 'urgency' of the situation. A mere 51 weeks after applying for PIP, I was assessed with no points which annoyed me and shocked me, I appealed twice which began to and then continued to wind me up (with no points), took it to a tribunal which stressed me out to bursting point (which was adjourned as they didn't have medical information from my employer or my GP and a new date would be set and take place as soon as possible - that was in August 2017 and I was beginning to lose hope) and then a second tribunal in February 2018 by which time I had gathered a second wind (which awarded me standard living allowance only because I wasn't a gibbering wreck). I have the distinct impression that the government is doing its best to avoid giving out the 'replacement benefit' to cap it all, I now have to wait between a further 4 & 6 weeks before I am going to get the arrears this means I may have to wait approximately 13 months to get a benefit reduction when my circumstances have got worse but because I am so pot less I feel sort of grateful - if it isn't, this begs the question 'What has changed so much to change my DLA enhanced living and lower mobility allowances' when this was awarded I was epileptic. Now I am epileptic with a brain injury and I have been awarded less - Logically, the brain injury has made me more mobile and, if not, my original claim was fraudulent and I should be splashed all over the papers as a 'Benefits Cheat'. I would strongly advise everyone who has put in a claim for PIP, not to give in and keep on going, after all even if the second tribunal is blown out there is always the ombudsman. Nil Illegitimi Carborundum (as a schoolboy way back when, I would like to apologise to all pigs out there) - anyone who went to a school which didn't teach Latin, this cute phrase means 'Don't let the b******ds grind you down' - of sorts

I can't answer your specific question, as I don't know enough detail and I'm under the impression you didn't have an adviser.

However I can say the following the regulations are significantly different for PIP, so some people receive more but many less compared to DLA.

One of the big potential winners are Low Mobility DLA who may qualify for Enhanced Mobility under PIP.

Of course I'm not saying your PIP decision is wrong, it's too complicated to say anything other than general points.

Im am glad I don't have to deal with this, it sounds like a headache, after a little search of yours truly public website (Personal Independence Payment for people who already get Disability Living Allowance bristol.gov.uk/en_US/benefi...

I came across this:

Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

gov.uk/pip/how-to-claim

but more to the point this:

Challenge a benefit decision (mandatory reconsideration) gov.uk/mandatory-reconsider...

Does that help at all again not on benefits so don't really know how it all works

can you not also ask these people: acfa.org.uk/index.php/i-wan...

I will update as I find more

I thought I saw something about you might go in to rent arrears (I could be fabricating this) if yes check here:

bristol.gov.uk/en_US/benefi...

Feel free to tell me to get the f&^k back to work lol
