Welcome Lee. Have you been left with many after effects from your brain injury ?

I had a haemorrhage in Dec 2011 and, like many others, now suffer with fatigue, short-term memory deficit, emotional volatility and balance issues.

See you again soon. Cat x

I got the drastic change in taste and smell just prior to the bleed. Everything tasted/smelled of burning plastic. I'd read about how it could be a symptom of a brain issue so spoke about it to my GP.............who laughed. Soon afterwards I had the haemorrhage, and the three other patients in my ward all had either loss of, or corruption of, taste and smell.

5 years on, it troubles me much less than in the beginning, but there are still foods which were my favoutites that taste too nasty to eat and which I miss. (mint sauce with roast lamb.....tomatoes......all fruit ! :-(

Take care Lee. x

HI Lee. I'm so sorry to hear what you have been through. Must have been awful. Apart from having no taste or smell do you have any other deficits?

Best wishes

Lulu

Memory loss

Yes I'm afraid that is common with BIs. My own BI is congenital and present since birth. But I also suffer short-term memory problems.

Completely agree. It is important to maintain a positive attitude. I think that can help things improve too.

Hi Lee. I was also assaulted 2.5 years ago which left me with Hydrocephalus and frontal lobe damage. My life changed overnight. I now have a shunt and plenty of help from Headway. Hope life is ok for you? Here to chat any time if you want to vent! It's hard when someone else has caused the BI. I had (still do) a lot of bitterness but working my way through Desmond Tutu's book "Forgiveness" which I hope will help
