Use of fentanil patch in hypoxic brain injury

Hi guys, hope everyone is enjoying their Easter weekend as much as possible. It's been a while since I wrote but due to recent developments I am in need of your advice again. We had a consultant coming over from another centre to give a second opinion. As opposed to the Ines caring for my mom, he thinks that they shouldn't be using fentanil patches to treat pain. It has been a little over 3 months since mom's injury and 2 months since she's in a rehab facility where they started her on fentanil patches around that time. On day one she is very sleepy and as we get closer to the third day where they put a fresh patch on she becomes more responsive but we don't know if she is in pain as the patch wears off. I was wondering if anyone has been through taking off those patches completely and has it actually made a difference on awekening/ emerging from the VS or MCS.

I could really appreciate your experience with it!

Thank you!

T.
