Hi Guys I am new here and I'm really worried, so recently I have being have constant migraines for the past 3 months, I saw my GP and because of my age (17) and due to the medication I am on we tried a type of medication that didn't work, so I went back today after 3 weeks my migraines are getting worse and I've completely cut dairy out of my diet ( thought it was an allergy) and due to my mental health and the nature of my medication he can't do anything, so he's reffered me to see a Neurologist, he thinks it's a lot more complicated than just a migraine as I've been really tired, my moods changing and I have been a lot more confused and forgetful than usual, should I be concerned? I'm terrified and I'm just wondering what test will they do? Will they be understanding?

Of course they'll be understanding Daisy ; the neurologist will arrange for all the relevant tests (maybe MRI/blood tests/reflexes etc.) to get a much clearer picture than your GP on possible cause and treatment for your headaches.

Quite often there are dietary explanations for migraines and I imagine your GP was thinking along those lines. My mother could eat any other dairy food with no ill effects, but a single egg would cause the most violent attack of migraine. It took years to make that link.

So the causes can often be straightforward but hard to establish (as you're finding) and waiting for test results can be worrying, but hopefully the specialist will be able to put you at ease and come up with the appropriate treatment to free you from those awful migraines. (I have them too & I do sympathise).

Best wishes Daisy ; please let us know how you get on ! Cat x

It's the 14 week wait I'm not looking forward to. They only really started when I had my tonsillectomy, I've been through eye tests, field test (failed them all) and I'm just scared

Hey Daisy

The symptoms you are getting don't sound very pleasant. To say the least.

You know there is something happening to your body. If you go and see the neurologist, she will do a few tests such as a scan etc, most of which are very straight forward.

If there were a way of making your problems a bit better through having some treatment, then that would probably be easier to deal with than all those hideous headaches etc?

If you're feeling scared there are things that you can do to make you feel better. Focus on your breathing. (Breath in for 5 seconds and breathe out for 5 and focus on the quiet space in between breathing in and out. Try and replace bad thoughts and worries by thinking about your favourite place or person.

Best of luck and let us know how you get on
