I am holding you and your family in my thoughts while you come to terms with your difficult circumstances. Each human body is unique in its ability to overcome adversity. What matters is the support and love of the family. While you might not think he is aware, somewhere deep in his psyche he is absorbing the energy around him. Important to share gentle love and comfort with him at this difficult time during his life.

Best wishes

You need to ask the hospital to interpret this for you. We can share our life experience, but are not doctors and cannot give medical opinions. Those who are looking after your brother in law are best placed to advise but be aware that recovery from brain injury is as individual as the person who sustained it.

Hi Sanju,

I'm so sorry to read your post, sending your family very best wishes. I can understand how hard it is to get definite information, but perhaps you could request an appointment with the dr in charge of your brother in law's care in order to get some clarity? Not everyone is able to to interpret medical information like this.

Also (just a thought). Your profile settings on this forum allow users to make settings either public or when the little padlock appears - 'private'. Your brother in laws personal details appear on the scan report and it might be good to protect his identity? Maybe he wouldn't have any problems with this, I know some people don't mind at all :) so I hope you don't mind me mentioning it?

I really hope you can get some answers - it's such a difficult situation. wishing you all the very best for some improvement. Bless you x

Here’s my opinion as someone with a brain injury. How long does recovery take? Months to years. More likely years. Everyone is different. As long as it takes, but maybe a different way to look at it is this: Recovery from brain injury is unlike any other injuries we have. With other injuries we normally heal from them and return to a somewhat normal life. One of the first things I had to come to grips with was realizing I had to get rid of the idea that I would be able to return to what used to be my normal. And replace it with creating my new self. That has been really hard to do. But it is getting easier to accept. That has taken away plenty of frustration, at least about being my old normal. I am sorry that you and your family are having to deal with this. It is definitely a real life challenge and one that no one would ever want to have to deal with. I know how hard it is. I find what creates much of my worry frustration, and anger is when I put expectations on how fast I’ll create my new life and my inability to do what used to be easy, but now I am unable to do. I learned this experience is like someone dying, as there is a loss of the person and how they used to be. We go through the grieving process for that loss. Which is an up and down process. The other thing is taking things one day or hour at a time, otherwise sometimes it can just get to be too much to handle. Hopefully this can be of some comfort or help. Wishing you peace.
