Had my first meeting with my appointee neuropsychologist this week and it's the first time I've had a conversation face to face with someone who seems to understand what I'm going through!

Hi trelfy, glad it went well for you. Just to know that someone actually understands makes such a big difference. K

Hi Trelfy

What a relief it is to see someone who understands. So pleased for you.

When my son saw a neuropsychologist it really helped him understand the things he found difficult.

I look forward to reading more posts about it.

Take care x

Hope it helps you. Can I ask you a question did you get referred by your GP as I somewhere on this forum advised me that seeing a Neurospsychologist would help me but I wouldn't know where to start

Hi jimboriley,

I was referred by the consultant neurosurgeon I saw, who incidentally quite unhappy that my neurologist hadn't already done so, or put me in touch with an epilepsy nurse and speech therapy.

I think I've read a post elsewhere on this forum about someone getting a referral from their GP.

As you can see from my reply to trelfi and trelfi's comment they certainly

Hi trelfi,

I've had a neuropsyc assesment and one rehab session with a second due this Friday and although only early times, as you say, it's great to talk to someone who actually know the mechanics of why we feel the way we do, whats related to the physical problem and what is the psycological impact of that.

Next session is to complete what I'm feeling and the fatigue issues I get. I thought I was alone or just 'weak' to get so fatigued doing little to nothing but apparently it is very commen with any physical brain issue.

I'm so glad that you are finding it useful, I konow I am.

Kindest regards

Sporan

pleased you have receive the support needed. Yes, they truly know how we are feeling, psychological impact, and how I behaved the way I did. It was coming to the point where I could not visit supermarket, Everything too noisy, busy, I felt without sounding dramatic I in a very noisy nightclub with lots of drunk loud people bouncing into me, and making me jump. Neuropsychologist helped and listened.

They understanding is great. Trying to explain is very difficult but understanding takes a great weight off to start with. Great news. Keep us posted

My gp referred me!

I'm SO envious, I've waited 9+ years for that. When I ring Headway though = GREAT: they BELIEVE what I try to explain about how I am = feels SO good. Everyone else seems to think I'm lying or exaggerating.

It would be SO good to meet people face-to-face who know what I'm talking about: professionals and other people with ABI. But even at Headway I felt left out because I couldn't (still now) say exactly what happened and exactly what bits of my brain (and body) are injured.

And at start we used to say HOW we got injured and at first I dared not even say I was injured during an op and by doctors coz people just don't say that and nobody else at Headway was injured like that. So as it got nearer my turn I felt more and more uncomfortable, WHAT to say? After a few months I said it but it always felt hard to say because what I was saying wasn't what all the docs and hospital said. They labelled me a liar and that destroyed some of my confidence.

I'd REALLY like to meet others who got injured how I did = if any, coz my injuries bit unusual I think, but others with some of the stuff I've got: neck, throat, skin change sudden, pain near heart, weird guts after, pulling/twinges in abdomen, twitching left ring finger, right leg/thigh (and the hole), eyes (especially right and that twitching after = MUST have been a sign should've taken notice of together with all the rest - I'd have thought. Errm but GP chose NOT to note all I told/asked, WHY?

WAY WAY too late now for the answers, too much wrecked,me more injured (STILL hurting from mega walk over a week ago = NO: NOT good to overdo it like that = MORE joint destruction left big toe and back/lumbar). Better late than never? Better be honest and open straight away and NOT even a TINY BIT LATE.

I also get the impression that people think I'm lying, or it's just my excuse for everything! 😖😡
