I have have a backbone too but don't us pe it much, I'm more like a jellyfish :).

I also hate to answer the telephone. I have one friend that said don't call me anymore I can't understand anything you say on the phone. I have had trouble speaking now for 3 years. Oh well, I guess that is life.

Do you see the friend in person instead or can you text on a mobile or email ?My partner is often misunderstood on the phone due to a slur left by stroke and was born partially deaf too so struggles to hear properly sometimes.He answered the phone to someone from work who he had not spoken to before last week -she was struggling with his voice and asked him loudly ' Have you been drinking, Sir ? ' -I was right next to him at the time and gave the woman an explosive mouthful regarding stroke .We were both gobsmacked that she came out with that to be honest.I have tinnitus and often stutter when tired so am not the best on a phone either !

Don't see him to often. For a full year I had no voice. Then for 6months I had a really bad stutter. Now for the last 9 months I talk with an accent. I find this better than no talking at all.

Hi Spideyman,

Voicing your opinions and saying it how it is, is a good thing and I fully support you in that. The only addition to that would be to make any critism constructive.

I think the support we all get from this forum is great, even if we don't actually post but only reply or read the responses.

Sometimes it's not what you say but the way that you say it. I've made plenty a gaff on that front.

As for the phone I avoid it as much as I can, especially if I know it will be a stressful call because my speech just becomes a jumble and incoherent, then I get totally frustrated because the words I want to use glimmer through the gloom to tease me then suddenly vanish before I can use them.

That means I'm not looney either then. I don't really like answering phones either.

My brother is a chiropadist (foot doctor) and so he has patients that would phone our house a lot and would, most of the time, want you to write a message. I am not a secretary and my handwriting is no good so I rarely ver talk on the phone now.

If I do, it would be on my mobile.

I AVOID ANSWERING THE PHONE IN CASE IT'S BAD NEWS OF SOME SORT OR SOMEONE I JUST DON'T WANT TO TALK TO,BE THEY NICE OR NASTY (COLD CALLS).

I HAVE A PHONE WHICH TELLS YOU WHO'S RINGING BUT I STILL DON'T ASWER IT IF I'M HAVING A BAD DAY.

SOMETIMES I MISS A CALL I WANTED TO TAKE BUT IF THEY WAN'T ME THAT MUCH THEY CAN LEAVE ME MESSAGE (WHICH I PROBABLY WON'T RETURN)

I don't have a problem voicing my opinion and some people I know need to be told directly whether they like it or not.

That's how I lost a friend of 40 years, I spoke my mind for the first time ever to her. I told her what I thought and she didn't like it much. It hurt thatshe played victim for ages afterwards, made me out to be a monster and under the thumb of my hubby.

Still don't speak to each other.

I hate speaking on the telephone, I tend to forget my turn to talk and thinking it's quiet, put the phone down.

If it is an important call I keep bullet points written down of what I need to say or ask so I don't forget, trouble is I don't always remember to write down the answer!
