Never particularly liked the guy's humour, despite it very much being the soundtrack to my youth. 'The Young Ones' was huge when I was about thirteen and my friends used to quote from it with such regularity that I personally felt like, well, finding new friends. Then, in adulthood, 'Bottom' was quite a hit and I went cold again.
In all of this, Mr Mayall suffered a head injury, a serious one. Apparently he suffered with memory troubles, had epilepsy and a few other brain injury related troubles. And now, he's dead, at 56 years of age.
Suddenly I feel like a very lucky man, VERY lucky indeed. His death may not be related to his injury, of course, but either way, 56? Jesus wept. My thoughts are with his family

I THOUGHT HE WAS HILARIOUS PARTICULARLY IN SOME OF THE COMIC STRIP,BEING A ROCK FAN "BAD NEWS" & "MORE BAD NEWS" WERE PRICELESSI i WAS SAD TO HEAR OF HIS DEATH.
I NEVER KNOW ABOUT HIS BI. RESPECT TO HIM FOR ACHIEVING ALL HE DID.
Me too. Was just discussing his demise and career minutes before looking in on Headway. I hadn't known he'd been married for almost 30 years or about his head injury 'til I saw the news today.
I always liked him, especially as Lord Flashheart in Blackadder (& quite fancied him too.......out of character).
Quite a shock and very sad for family & familiars............much too young. I suppose it could be seen as a 16 year reprieve but after his initial recovery it seems a more cruel blow.
I liked some of his humour but then I don't like all the humour of other comedians, but what I did like is you still see some of his characters on the streets today, Comedy Gold, RIP RIK we on this Forum know what it is like to have a Brain Injury.
I was a big fan and have many DVDs of his stuff, the low point would have to be the awful Filthy Rich and Catflap! I loved the young ones and bottom but my favourite TV show of his was The New Statesman, sad to hear that he couldn't remember anything about that after his head injury. He will be missed by many and of course is irreplaceable.
I could not believe the news when I first heard...I wasn't aware he had sustained a brain injury - heck I forget I have one too sometimes so thats not surprising - but I was pleased to see that his friends have begun fund raising in his memory and his family have confirmed that the money raised will go to Headway to help support other survivors and their families. That is such a great gesture at a time of such sadness for all of them.
RIP indeed - what about Drop Dead Fred -U can't say U didn't like that film - one of the best films ever. Probly 3rd t Life of Bwian & Holy Grail. It's one of those films U can watch & really enjoy on a yearly basis ;o)
