UKABIF - giving a voice to acquired brain injury

Dear Colleague,

Establishing the numbers of acquired brain injuries every year, the number of people disabled as a result and the overall numbers of people living with a brain injury is not easy. There are many people, particularly children and young people, with minor head injuries who never attend Accident and Emergency. A proportion of those with mild and moderate injury, if missed, are likely to experience long term problems which will be much more difficult and costly to resolve later down the line.

Without accurate figures how can we have informed planning for rehabilitation services?

March is Brain Awareness Month and as it draws to a close we are asking our members and colleagues to contact their MPs to ask for a review of acquired brain injury figures. You can find out who your MP is by clicking here. There is a template letter for you to use here. The more support this receives the better the chances for people with acquired brain injury - if you can let us know who you have contacted we’d be very grateful!

Kind Regards
