Fibromyalgia

I’ve been diagnosed with haemochromatosis for 5years and blamed all my aches and pains on it.

Today I’ve been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia by my GP, is there a connection between the 2 conditions.

Tricky. Personally I would want a rheumatologist specialist to make a diagnosis of fibromyalgia!

As for a connection with iron overload, there are links on searching. I'm unsure of the science behind them.

Seems to depend on the type of Haemochromatosis too.

Because 2 symptoms occur together it does not mean they are linked. And because both these conditions are chronic I would recommend being rigorous about the diagnosis of fibromyalgia.

I have the same problem, they diagnose you with this as they don't have a clue what is causing the pain

I agree, a rheumatologist is the person to diagnose fibromyalgia. It’s easy to fall into the trap of blaming haemochromatosis for every incidental health problem but it’s important to bear in mind that most people with FM (and plenty of other conditions) don’t have haemochromatosis, and those conditions will still need treating and managing in their own right. It’s tempting to hope that venesection will somehow “cure” these other symptoms but it may not make the slightest difference—in which case you’ll have your answer.

The problem IS, getting the tests you need to find out. GH is also associated with arthritis. Overload of iron, the body not able to excrete excess builds up in the body. My mum had severe rain every joint in her body, obviously she would have had GH. Even arthritis is linked. If the iron is not used or excreted it has to store somewhere.

I’ve decided to use herbal remedies to try and help myself as getting no where with ‘organised medics’.

Oh and yes apparently there are various possible explanations but that just gives medics an excuse to do nothing.
