high ferritin, low serum?

4 weeks ago my ferritin levels were once again 'above range' , been like this since last August despite having been told years ago my body would never store any excess iron and I'd have to take iron for life.

Follow-up action "no further action"

Today I get the results from the serum iron and (not surprisingly to me, as I've felt worse since they took me off iron) its below range, as is my serum transferrin level.

Follow-up action "no further action"

Reason for test "recommended by haematologists due to high ferritin to rule out iron overload.

Yet GP has again put 'no further action'?! surely even a layman can work out if my stores are too high but my body doesn't have enough summat is wrong somewhere?

I would ask for saturation test and Hemochromotosis test if you have a blood donation center you can try to donate blood if you are cleared to be medically fit to do so then extra iron would come out if you can call your doctor and get checked for Blood disorders I have Hemochromotosis

And it shows in the ferritin level and iron saturation levels call your doctor and get checked, good luck to you let us know how you are doing....

thanks for reply Michiganpbc, sorry for delay, hadn't seen I'd got replies.

I got removed from the Blood Donation register 3 years ago as my iron levels were too low and becasue (at the time) my body would never store any excess iron they said i could never donate again, I wouldn't be able to donate now either as despite my iron stores being 'above range' my iron levels are below!

GP not doing anything "no further action" (as usual) said no sign of anaemia (even though lab results Oct 16 clearly state "below range") she just says is because I have inflamation in my body and acts like thats fine, thats 'normal', doesn't feel bloody normal to me, I didn't manage to go to work until 3pm yesterday! maybe I should try another GP, it's all just so frustrating though :(

Can you see a liver doctor and a hematologist there for second opinion?

the ME specialist I saw 2 years ago suggested to my GP I saw hemo, GP finally agreed to refer me earlier this year, then said that they'd spoken to hemo, I didn't have iron overload so stopped the referral!

Try to get in to see the specialist liver/hematologist

I guess it's worth asking, though it took them over a year to refer me to an Immunologist, by then I had 5 different auto-immune issues, so I won't be holding my hopes up!

I'm confused about the level of blood results .......I'm the criteria to qualify being diagnosed with H ?

My blood showed 5 which looked like just one point higher than the range of normal.

I'd be so grateful of anyones advice ?

I've Hashimotos Thyroiditis, constant digestion problems with reflux often seeping into my lungs and choking me, undiagnosed multiple brain lesions, and ? Rheumatoid Arthritis ? (waiting bloods) ....,just thought I'd better give the whole picture 🙈

I have a belief it's all autoimmune disease related ???

Best regards Susan
