Has anyone else been diagnosed with IBS as well as Celiac ?

yes, gluten is a major cause of IBS and IBD. Unfortunately the mainstream medical profession ignore this fact. Going gluten free often reduces or eliminates the symptoms. If you are still really suffering look again at your eating habits. People with gluten intolerance / celiac also often have a problem with cows milk (a well-known cause of IBS) - so, it could be milk-products that are causing your symptoms instead of, or in addition to, gluten. Also, are you really eating gluten free?? It is not just wheat, barley and rye - some people also cannot tolerate oats and corn - and these are in a LOT of supposedly GF products. Do away with processed products, and look for the hidden gluten in places you wouldn't expect to find it (beer, sauces, GF products mislabelled by manufactures who get it wrong and listed under another name in the ingredients - MSG, 'e' numbers, 'flavourings', ). And keep a food-&-symptom dairy: write down what you eat as the day goes by and also you symptoms ... you may well see a correlation between the two (be aware that something you ate yesterday can cause a problem today or several days later) - seeing it on the page you will notice a pattern, and this makes it easier to identify the culprit food.

Hi Maryelle

Ironically, having been diagnosed with coeliac disease last year have now been told I have IBS. Amazing that I had no bowel problems until I had been gluten free for about a month. I'm still not sure whether its due to iron tablets which I am still on after a year or the change in food. I look at the labels of some of the foods I eat now and compare to what I ate before there doesn't seem to be any decent wholegrain type stuff I can eat and I put it down to that or possibly that I eat a lot more fruit and veg to fill myself up and I know these foods produce more gas and apparently give you pain. I feel for you what a nightmare!!
