i've been on a GF diet for 10 days n i feel so sick. I'm so lethargic/sleepy. Is this a withdrawal symptom, if so how long will it last?:

I had my biopsies last Friday so I have been GF for 6 days...and I admit the first few days felt really strange, but today am much better...since the middle of last summer I started adding multivitamins and other suppliments, so have been taking these all along in handfulls...still I felt the withdrawall symptoms...but Sat, the day after the biopsies, I added sub-lingual B-12 twice a day, and in the morning the headache that I have had since Thanksgiving was gone...I still had the lightheadedness, and ataxia and the severe muscle and bone pain, plus sores on my face....I continued the B-12, and am having much better days since I stated this...back to work, and actually working 13 hour days.and started problem solving again, so I am almost back to normal...but I think it is because I am on the suppliments.....try this, but make sure they are all gluten free, and if you haven't alreay addressed this, go over your generic medications...this was a problem for me......and if possible, make them all sub-lingual, so as to bypass your digestive track.....good luck.

If I remember correctly I felt terrible when I started the GF diet for about 2 weeks, like your body is going through a total detox. I had terrible headaches, sweats etc. but stick with it - this stage does pass, and then you will start to feel so much better!

Yes, you'll be detoxing, and also you may be experiencing low blood sugar if you've cut out a lot of your sugar sources (quite likely). Eating frequently helps, and eating low GI stuff when you can.

And just a word of warning: do check vitamin ingredients for maltodextrin, dextrose and the like. I couldn't work out why my multivitamin wasn't helping me feel better till i did that.

Good luck. It does keep getting easier, I promise.

Go see a doc if it continues, it may not be the change in diet - there are many other conditions that can cause similar symptoms.

As long as you dont actually swallow any particles of food then you should be ok :) If you are planning a little romance then I suggest he brush his teeth or rinse out at least, if he has just eaten - not sure that it will be totally necessary but a precaution that my partner always takes :)
