I had an MRI today and seemingly I now have an enlarged spleen. I am assuming this is not CD related but just don't know

Spleen issues can be CD related. However, it may be a separate issue. I'd recommend you discuss this with your Dr when you get the write up from your MRI.

Web MD says:

'An enlarged spleen is not always a sign of a problem. When a spleen becomes enlarged, though, it often means it has been doing its job but has become overactive. For example, sometimes the spleen is overactive in removing and destroying blood cells. This is called hypersplenism. It can happen for many reasons, including problems with too many platelets and other disorders of the blood.'

Have you also had tests for liver function and to rule out any other CD related auto-immune diseases?

Hi Fiona

I am having everything they think I am having some kind of autoimmune crisis. So far my kidneys, thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, coeliac disease, blood pressure, sarcoidosis and now my spleen are involved. They can't work out what the root cause is. Thanks again.

Well it's good that they are checking other key areas. It maybe unlikely but have they run some common cancer markers for you like CA125 etc? I'm sure either way you'll know more soon. Often it's a pain as you have to wait 2 weeks or so for the follow up letter from the scan. Hope you have an update soon. Keep us posted.

Hi - the CA125 markers are usually for ovarian cancer. So you'll just need to ask them what cancer markers / other tests have they run?

They ran a whole host of tests including cancer markers on Friday just waiting for the results
