Metallic taste

Hi, I have an awful metallic taste in my mouth and my tongue keeps going white. I have had it swabbed and it's supposedly fine. Any suggestions to get rid of the taste and improve my appetite before I loose any more weight?

Recall reading metallic taste could be due to lack of zinc, not sure about tongue.

Thanks I will look into it.

I had that as a sign I was intolerant to dairy. Went on for months before I put it together with other symptoms.

I've had this years ago.

Since I've come off wheat, gluten and try to make sure I have a good diet.

I have heard the zinc cause before also.

I can remember having this on several occasions but since going gf, don't recall it happening again.

Have you seen a dietitian yet? She (he) should be able to sit down with you and suggest solutions for improving your appetite and help you stop losing weight or even to gain some if you are underweight.. I put on 2 stone the 2 years after going gluten free.. Not entirely happy about that.. : /

. I have heard that pineapple juice is good for a white tongue, not sure about the metallic taste. I'm guessing its all down to your poor appetite..

Cheers weee, am seeing dietician in the morning. Have lost 1 1/2 stone in last 7 weeks and wasn't very big to start with! You are the first person to mention white tongue and mine is disgusting . Will ask about pineapple juice . X

Hi Busby. Having a white tongue and terrible taste in your mouth may be because of candida - yeast infection. I had this some years ago. I still avoid eating anything with yeast in it , like bread, and also sugar and mushrooms as they seemed to make it worse. Too many ready made gf products contain sugar! I find that I need a fairly low carbohydrate diet generally to keep everything under control, so avoid most processed food. I'm not sure about pineapple.

Good luck with the dietician.

I had a metallic taste for going on 10 years prior to diagnosis of coeliac and lactose intolerant.

Prior to diagnosis I confused the whole thing with eating pinenuts as I'd read somewhere that Chinese pinenuts had a toxin that gave a metallic taste (and you know how desperate we are pre-diagnosis). Time passed and the metallic taste endured. Post diagnosis it was discovered I was still extremely anaemic. Gastro prescribed industrial strength iron and metal taste subsided. I do take Vit c with zinc separately to avoid upsetting the iron/zinc balance.

Pineapple juice - it is a digestive supplement.

Re candida - I had a coating on my tongue, GP said due to malabsorption not yeast. Apparently candida shows as little dots.
