CD and osteoporosis

Sitting in hospital now with a broken wrist caused by osteoporosis. It's not the CD I find hard it's everything you get with it

Nearly all of these things come to light because it takes so long to recognise CD as the problem. Many older people are diagnosed with CD after a low impact fracture these days; I am sure they find that really difficult to come to terms with. I went to hospital with a broken arm and they tell me I have to radically change what I eat for the rest of my life?

My osteopenia was found as part of a review for my arthritis several years after the CD diagnosis. It had not been looked for previously but fortunately I have been on supplements to improve my bone density for 3 years now so should be at less risk of fractures

I agree.. People say to me 'what would happen if you ate gluten' I say well I'd be very ill but it's not the short term effects I worry about , its the long term effects.. :(..

Was tempted to have qne small KitKat plus a Penguin biscuit Friday. About 2hours later was a bit nausious, then violent progectile vomit all over kitchen flooor, cupboards, mat. Cleaned up enough, sprayed disinfectant everywhere....was in a right state..had to retire with basin and towels. Next day had to take rug outside to give good scrub and clean up kitchen. Didnt enjoy biscuits like I used to. Never again be tempted, not worth it. Very important to remember long term effect. Lesson learnt do not have gluten foods in house now. On my own so can do this. Was in stock for grandchildren, have given away now

Mia1057 & jackieO ,what medicines are you on ? I diagnosed with CD a year ago and have recently been diagnosed with osteoporosis ,I am taking that Alendronic Acid tablet once a week .

I was a little concerned about your broken wrist ? With out being forward / rude could I ask how old you are and how long you have been diagnosed ?

I sat next to a women aged 78 who has been diagnosed about 20yrs ,she started taking Alendronic Acid tablets in her 60's and the Dr said she had built her bones back up .

hiya me 2 i take i a week tab but also calcum tabs 2 a day do you take tose 2 been on them for 10 years but celiec 12 months now xx

I am 55 and have a problem with my parathyroid gland and therefore with my calcium levels. Unfortunately you cannot correct the parathyroid by medication so I on the list for the op. I have been diagnosed with CD for 10+ years but have a set of autoimmune diseases as well.
