Even when I eat a GF pizza base or bread I get pains and bloating, except Genius brand.

It seems that whenever I eat GF bread/cakes/pizza I get pains, constipation and bloating, this does not happen with genius bread however....

I find this odd that I cannot enjoy a gf pizza, does anyone else have this problem.

I am beginning to wonder of there is something else in other brands that I am sensitive to.

Hi Maryelle, are the bread, cake's and pizza bases made with codex wheat starch? Because not all coeliac can tolerate codex wheat starch.

Genius bread on the other hand uses naturally gluten free flours and is wheat free.

If this is the case you may also have a reaction to foods with artificial sweeteners derived from wheat, like maltodextrin as maltodextrin can contain low levels of gluten and be below the codex limit for gf.

So you are not alone and I avoid all codex wheat products.

Yes I think your right, I have a wheat intolerance as well.

Thank you very much this is something I had not looked into.

Hi Maryelle, have you compared the ingredients list between the gf pizza etc and Genius? I don't eat Genius so I don't know what's in it. A lot of gf breads etc use soy which some coeliacs are sensitive to. Just a thought! Hope you find out what it is...

I don't eat any GF bread other than genius seeded and have been eating GF since being diagnosed with CD last year. Despite this I really understand how you feel with all those symptoms and feel like this with anything I eat. I am now going to try avoiding milk and see how it goes. It doesn't seem like there is much else we can do.

I find Genius excellent too. Livwell Crumpets (GF) are to die for!

:) I make Laucke GF all in one quick packet mix instant oven bread for my son. There is a choice of White or Meals and Grains. He prefers the latter. I make the whole quantity up a the same time which makes two loaves. When cold, I slice them and put in the freezer. This way it is easy for him to take however many slices he needs at any given time. He does eat the Genius bread but that is very expensive. The net weight of each packet is 1kg (2x500g packets). With the same mix you can make pizza, wraps and tortillas, but I have not tried these yet.

Kaarina :)

For anyone who picks up on the thread, I have checked with Genius and they do not allow anything to pass that measures over 5ppm, i.e. above what can be scientifically measured at the moment. It's as safe as it's going to get in UK.

You have done the same as me and clicked on a link to an old thread! I am glad we did, as I have been avoiding all GF bread, and it is good to know which one is safest!

Their bread still has a lot of additives but I do think it's probably one of the safer bets if you're willing to risk it.

I am staying away from all processed food as far as I can, and that is easy while we are all so isolated, but there will come a time again when I will be more sociable, and if I have an answer to which bread I can eat, it will help! I am actually benefitting from the Covid situation in the sense that there is no embarrassment about having to decline people's hospitality or having to be demanding!
