Hello i just wanted to get other fellow Celiacs views really, i am not saying anyone should not have the vaccine, until a few days ago i was going to book my appointment but having looked into this alot and after having a live webchat with Pfzier about the ingredients which do not list gluten i was told being they use other raw materials from a wide variety of maufacturers they cannot guarantee any cross contamination issues of minute traces of gluten or other substances, they stated they stated the finish product was gf but not any raw materials handled by other supplers, i believe that all the other vaccines are also saying this too.
Please i am very interested in others opions, have you had the vaccine,? Any problems related to celiac symptons after having it? I am disapointed with my findings but do not want to suffer any symptons or more damage longterm. I have been celiac for 4 years now.

I’m a coeliac – and have had the Pfizer vaccine. I had no gastric symptoms, just a very sore arm for a couple of days.
Whilst I understand your concerns about gluten contamination, I feel that the bigger picture also has to be taken into consideration. Covid-19 is a killer! Having the vaccine dramatically reduces this risk.
Three of my good friends have each lost a parent to Covid in this pandemic. Personally speaking, I felt having the vaccine was worthwhile - and was a better option when compared to getting Covid and then risking being hospitalised with complications.
I would encourage you to go for it, however I do recognise that each person has to make a decision based on their own medical history and needs.
Hello Regalbirdy thankyou for replying i appreciate it, i understand totally your reasons for having the vaccine, i am also a carer for my mum who is extremley clinically vulnerable at 81, i would like the vaccine but do not want to suffer any horrid symptons of painful stomachs etc and also lymphona which is related to eating gluten longterm, i am a very sensitive celiac., i know it is my decision and really i know the best option would be covid protection but i don't want to beel ill either, however it is reassuring that other fellow celiacs have had it too. You are right but looking into it they all state the same no guarantee.
Hi Rmichelle I had the Oxford, AstraZeneca vaccine and was fine.
Personally if it had been Pfizer, I would take the risk. I think even if I took a flare with cross contamination it would not be as bad as getting covid. It is your choice though, I would take into consideration that you are your mums carer and if you get covid you would not be able to care for her . Maybe talk to your doctor for advice . X
Thankyou Angel46 yes i am worried over mum but i also feel i need to look after myself...sounds pathetic i know !! Don't want covid and don't want gluten symptons either, i know my gp would say it is safe for celiacs but after hearing what pfzier said then it is more confusing.
Hello. I am coeliac and had the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine with no gastric problems. Like the others, I feel Covid is more dangerous for me than gluten. Also, millions of doses of vaccine have been given, I think if it was causing serious problems for coeliacs this would be known by now. Hope this helps

I'm celiac for three years now, got first jab 5 weeks ago, I was asked if I had any underlying health problems.I've had no reaction to the Phizier vaccine, TBH I never even felt the injection.

Hi Rmichelle(apologies for the long reply in adv/I aim to reassure). I'm a health professional and I raised my Coeliac history with the doctor who assessed me prior to having the vaccine (there were other factors to take into account too) and they assured me out of the two vaccines available on the day (Pfizer and Oxford). The preferred one was Oxford and stated to me it has no gluten containing ingredients. I also cross checked with Coeliac UK who also stated there were no reasons/risks in getting the vaccine. (Always a good resource, as they are evidenced based and do all the research for you!)I had no adverse reactions but having now had my complete dose, reiterate others views, that covid itself is by far more extreme than any symptoms obtained through contamination.
I am very sensitive to c.contamination and felt fairly unwell post vaccines but would still rather be protected + protect others through having it, than go without entirely.
You'll find with most medications, for legal purposes they will not be able to guarantee they are free from contaminants, (unless they pay for thorough testing for say in this example -the gluten protein + are able to label it GF accordingly). Just in case someone has an adverse reaction from it.
With the vaccine, the testing for all potential contaminants would slow the delivery process to all exponentially, causing more harm than good in protecting people from covid. Always a balance of risks you see...

Lol😀 love your sense of humour Jlou84 your info was great and re-assuring, yes and i get what you are saying ...medications like antibiotics etc maybe cross contaminated too a whole host of other things, talking to other people is getting me closer to having the jab and like liver bird stated, "i think we would off known by now if anyone on here at symptons of gluten poisoning"
I have been diagnosed Coeliac since 2012 and consider my a very sensitive Coeliac, I have a reaction walking past the bakery in our local supermarket! I also had to go on the SCD diet as two years into being totally gluten free (even blood tests showed no evidence of being glutened) I was getting worse than before being diagnosed, so I can appreciate where you are coming from and I feel I am quite neurotic about avoiding any possibility of being glutened. Anyway, back to the vaccine. I had the Pfizer jab in February, bit of a sore arm for a couple of days and a bit of a headache, no gut problems as I recall. Personally, I feel the risk of a reaction to the vaccine to be a small price to pay to protect myself and others from Covid, death and Long Covid are no joke.
Aaw thankyou for your reply😃 its good to know you get where i am coming from...the bakery bit sounds alot like me, i used to bake for my daughter and when using normal flour i would wrap a scarf around my nose and mouth and wear gloves as it made my nose and lips sting and burn!! I am glad you have had the vaccine and i must say i am being swayed now towards the injection.
I've had covid and although not hospitalised, it was the worst illness I've ever had - very ill for 3 weeks and am still suffering from long covid symptoms a year later. I was unable to work at all for 5 months and even now I am struggling to work part time at home doing a desk based job. It is far more debilitating than an episode of being exposed to fully exposed to gluten. As a coeliac, I have recently had the Oxford AstraZeneca jab and am really hoping that it will help improve my long covid symptoms over the coming weeks and months. I had no gastric reaction to the jab and would have taken whichever jab I was offered. If there was any way of avoiding covid and potential ongoing long covid symptoms, I would take it!
SaraG, my hubby had covid in January and is still suffering now, lucky myself and daughter did not get it as i isolated him away in a room....sounds awful doesnt it!! Thankyou for your honesty and i wish you a more speedy recovery, i am feeling less anxious about it now, so glad i put my findings out there.😁
Maybe worth checking hubby's B12. Could be part of the post-viral fatigue. Levels good around 500 - Folate and Ferritin mid-range. VitD around 100. There is research somewhere on this but cannot find it at present - sorry ...

My husband and I had the Oxford vaccine. He is coeliac and I am not. He had no reaction whatsoever and I had aches and a temp for 3 days !I would say go ahead as you are most likely to be fine but even if you are unwell it won’t be as bad as covid. X
My partner is coeliac, he had the vaccine a few weeks ago. He had a bit of a hangover headache for a few days, but no coeliac reaction (he reacts to some GF products like codex and gluten removed beers, so is a bit more sensitive than the average coeliac, if that helps)
I have been a diagnosed coeliac for 30 years, not always particularly sensitive. I am a very overweight 76 year old with high blood pressure, controlled with meds, and paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, also on meds for that. When the first news of a possible vaccine for COVID came out I said I would definitely have it even if it did contain gluten! Dealing with the possible consequences if and when they occurred feeling that would be the lesser of the two evils, ie possibly deadlyCOVID v upset tummy for a few days was to me a no-brainer! I had my first vaccination in January, Oxford Astra/Zeneca one and 24 hours later suffered mild flu like symptoms which, I believe, is an indication your immune system is working. Just waiting now for my second vaccination so I can get back to a more ‘normal’ life.

Hi Rmichelle, just a little update. THE text messages came yesterday inviting us for our 2nd COVID vaccination, so now appointments all booked. Fingers crossed all will go as well as before. I wish you well with your vaccinations I’m sure you will be just fine xx

At age 71, I have suffered from various autoimmune diseases, for over 50 years, Celiac being only one of them. I have refused all of the COVID vaccines, as I have refused vaccines for almost 60 years. All of my health issues have been a direct result of adverse reaction to pharmaceuticals, especially vaccines. Keep in mind that Pfizer and Moderna are gene therapy inoculations, as in chemotherapy.

You are very welcome. I am very sorry to hear of your mother's illnesses. My own mother went through breast, colon and uterine cancer. It's a tough road. Every moment is precious.
My husband and I of 73 and 71 years, live together in the same household with our son and his family. Our DIL, became ill after spending a day working out in the rain and cold wind. A couple of days into it she tested positive for COVID. She treated herself with Homeopathics, mega doses of vitamin C, and herbal tinctures. She did lose her sense of smell and taste, did start to go into pneumonia, but she breathed in the vapors from boiling water with Oregano tincture and Melaleuca oil. She was ill for 2 weeks and fully recovered in 3 weeks, and our two granddaughters for 2 days each. My husband and I and our son, in his mid 30's did not have the slightest symptoms. I do believe that it's quite possible that genetics plays a part, as our DIL is half Navaho and of course our two granddaughters are 1/4. We other 3, are mainly of German and Nordic descent. But also our DIL, is the one who caught a chill, initially, and that would have a large bearing on her immune system taking a dump.
This article might be of more help. Note that no testing was done on those with autoimmune disease, during the phase 1 and 2 testing, so the jury is out on that. But, the 3rd phase testing, now taking place throughout the world, will prove whether or not the COVID vaccines are safe for those who are in an autoimmune situation.

I’ve got refractory coeliac and I simply can’t manage the 40 minute trip both ways to the centre providing the inoculations. I’m hoping to get GP to do it, at some point. 😊

I have coeliac disease and have also had the Pfizer vaccine. Even if there was gluten in the vaccine it should be okay to have as you are not eating it and it will not pass through the digestive system.

I think you might be splitting hairs on this one. If they have stated the finished product is GF, then it is gluten free, at least to within codex. The link to Beyond Celiac (who are gluten free advocates to a fault) states Pfizer vaccine is GF (US site). I'd say there is a greater risk from a gluten free cake in your local Free From supermarket section than the vaccine. Getting covid on the other hand will be more risk-ridden than a minor tiny non-demonstrable risk of gluten from a covid vaccine.
I have been diagnosed celiac for 25 years and my case is very severe. When in flair I have fibromyalgia, dermatitis as well as gastric issues. CD has also eaten up my spleen some years ago! The only way I can keep it out of flair is to follow a strict ‘no plants’ carnivore diet. So I am very sensitive!
I have had the Pfizer vaccination in February with zero gastric symptoms afterwards. I did feel tired, stiff and mildly sore for a few days but it soon passed and I felt happy with that considering the bigger picture.
I am happy with the efficacy and safety of the vaccines. Really vaccination is the best way forward. I just can’t wait to get the lockdown madness behind us.
Im a coeliac and I react really badly to gluten I had the Pfizer vaccine and had no issues or side effects whatsoever.
If they are stating the finished product is gluten free I would imagine that it is, things like vaccine ingredients go through distillation processes which remove all traces of gluten anyway so I don't think you have anything to worry about at all
I was worried about having the vaccine as I have coeliac disease, been off Gluten for 25years now. When I got my letter to have the vaccine i telephoned my GP to find out if the vaccine was safe to have being a coeliac, I also have Asthma so I was worried about that as well.
My GP reassured me the vaccine was safe to have. On the day I had my vaccine I was asked by the medical person who was giving me the vaccine all about my medical history. I had the AstraZeneca vaccine. I didn’t have any problem with effects of the vaccine effecting my gluten intolerance.
So kind of you to tell me your experience towels, yes i can understand your worry as that is how i initally felt but having spoken to so many other ceoliacs now i am more confident i have made the right choice in having the vaccine (monday coming). Good to know you have been fine.😊
I had the Pfizer vaccine on 20th Feb. No bad affects at all except I couldn't lay on my arm for a couple of nights!! I feel so much safer now too. I would recommend getting your vaccine. My partner and his immediate family have had the Oxford one. His Mum had that back in January and is due to go for her second jab (may have even had it). They don't have Coeliac Disease though but I know from this site there are many of us that have had the jab. Take care and stay safe and I hope this helps!
