GF and Vegan Oats bar ❤️

Hello,

I though to start sharing some of my home made ingredients. Today I made oats bars. Seems delicious 😋

I just used 4 simple ingredients

2 large bananas mix well

1/4 of pitted dates

1/4 of nuts of choice

2 cups of oats but I used 1 1/2 cups. I may try less next time?

Need teaspoon of olive oil to add to the container.

Cook at 180 for electric cookings for approximately 15-20 mins.

Looks super, but just a reminder that many coeliacs can't eat oats, 'gluten free' or not. They make me extremely ill, unfortunately

Same... still looks good!!

That’s unfortunate. I’ve been told to steer away from oats

I’m sorry to hear this. I do live oats but have limited my intake since been advised about oats. What would be an alternative?

You can try experimenting with buckwheat (preferably some that describes itself as gluten free so it hasn’t been through grain-processing machinery). It’s possible to buy buckwheat flakes and make them into a porridge substitute, or whole grains of buckwheat which I have simmered in a little water and milk then added fruit such as red currant jelly as another kind of porridge substitute. Worth a try!

Yes buckwheat is good but haven’t seen GF version in a while. It’s been discontinued at H&B store. Jelly? That’s is different 😃

Buckwheat is good idea. Do you know where I can but gf version? H&B stopped selling gf version. Jelly is an interesting idea.

I just had a look online and Forestwholefoods seem to have various types. Redcurrant jelly is sold near the pickles and condiments section of supermarkets and, along with cranberry sauce, is fruity without being too sweet. There's also Eat Natural gf toasted buckwheat muesli from Sainsbury but I think it's very sweet

I would be careful even with gluten free oats; with that said, oats carries a protein that's very similar in structure to gluten. The body will often respond with inflammation and/or improper immune response.

Yes, I’ve heard about gf oats, which is a shame. Even with many other gf grains can cause inflammation. I’ve come off a lot of grains at the moment to see how my acid reflux symptoms goes? Nothing change md so far.

I am another one who can't eat oats, but this sounds good! Next time I have any bananas, I plan to try it with buckwheat flakes instead of oats, so thank you for the recipe.

Yes buckwheat is on my list too. Could you recommend a brand? Or where I could buy it? Thx

I bought my latest supply from Sussex Wholefoods - healthysupplies.co.uk and I have also used forestwholefoods.co.uk

I buy most of my GF basics online

Not from stores like Asda or Mark and Spencer? Seems my friend shoos similar to you as well.

I would have to drive some way for either of those, so I have no idea what they stock! My local supermarkets don't label theirs as GF, and the online ones do. I buy nuts, seeds, lentils, beans, ground almonds, and buckwheat flour as well, so make it worth ordering, and they sell bigger packs so cheaper, which covers the delivery.

I have avoided going to the supermarket this year, and do my shopping from local veg stalls, small butchers, and online from both wholefoods people and supermarkets, and it works well for me! I will be happy not to return to the supermarket.
