Hi everyone

Following on from the posts about raised bilirubin I got on to my contact at Imperial College, London, who is involved with the study on Intrahepactic Cholestasis of Pregnancy and they are interested in looking further, together with Coelic/Gluten Sensitive specialists, at the potential relationship between gluten and ICP, or raised bilirubin levels particularly in pregnancy.

Could any of you who have experienced ICP and/or raised bilirubin at some other time in your life please let me know and specify which one if possible. She has asked me to gauge what our numbers are. I am asking a number of other pages for feedback too. I will only be giving figures, no details of the groups or screen names. Does anyone know how many members there are for this Gluten Free group?

Thanks

Caroline

That’s good news your contact wants to take a look into this correlation. As per my reply to your previous post I had Cholestasis in both pregnancies and soon after developed Coeliac disease. I had undiagnosed Cholestasis in my first pregnancy in 2000 and suffered alot at the end of the pregnancy so much so the consultant planned to deliver me 3.5 weeks early but my son decided to appear the night before my planned section (he was extended breach). The older consultant I had only did one type of liver test and mot the full complement to diagnose Cholestasis unfortunately. I was then pregnant again just over a year later and a young midwife picked up on my terrible symptoms of the last pregnancy and did tests and diagnosed Cholestasis and put me on meds so luckily I didn’t have any symptoms. My new consultant (old one had since retired!) planned to deliver me early but he was happy to let me go to due date with daily monitoring for the last few weeks. I would say soon after this baby was born, within months, I started with Coeliac symptoms but put them down to other reasons and had loads of tests for gynae issues etc and it wasn’t until 7 years later I was diagnosed with Coeliac disease. Probably more detail than you wanted but hope that helps!
