Non coeliac gluten sensitivity

I believe I have NCGS. Pizza and fresh baked bread make me feel very bloated and sick. Sliced bread makes my joints ache! I had a gastroscopy and it showed no damage to the gut however I have cut out gluten due to the horrible symptoms I get when eating it. My question is - could I reintroduce things containing gluten - such as the occasional biscuit or things that say may contain gluten? I understand I could just try this myself but am apprehensive as I hate the way it makes me feel. I would just like to know if anybody else has tried it and with what result.

Thanks in advance. X

Any issues with dairy? The casein protein in dairy is similar to gluten.

If you suspect a food, stop it for two weeks and then reintroduce and monitor your symptoms over three days.

Start a logbook of food, drink and symptoms as there is a 3 to 48 hour lag between the cause and the symptom appearing. For me, brain fog shows up 24 hours after getting gluten. The wind and diarrhea are fairly quick. Then it is like my gut gets paralyzed and I’m constipated 2 days later. I get very sleepy before the poo that gets it out of my system.

Your symptoms will be unique to your situation so only your logbook can tell you what is going on.

Hi Awil,

Sorry to hear that you’ve been having problems. It’s really good to hear that you’ve had the proper tests done before you decided to go gluten free.

Sure you can go ahead and try again with gluten foods if you want to.

However I have to question why you should want to - when you already know that it’s likely to make you feel so rotten again?!?

Ultimately, only you can decide if it’s worth it. Keep a record of what you’ve been eating, so you can join the dots if the need arises.

All the best.
