Hi I've just done a big big mistake....Ive been wanting to have some country vegetable soup for very long time and earlier got hold of some. It was delicious and something made me read the ingredients and the first thing I read was wheat n barley!!i had a bowl full. Should I expect symptoms to occur soon and have I done alot of damage after trying so hard to stick with my gf diet

Hi Sid, It's amazing where these ingredients crop up. Who would think that soup would contain wheat? From personal observation, soup manufacturers seem to have become aware that this is an issue, and I have noticed that many have replaced wheat starch with maize starch over the last couple of years. Reformulation is a long process, especially for big brands, because the new version has to closely match the old version in taste, texture and appearance. Also, the labelling needs to be changed too. Like we keep saying on this forum, become a serial label reader, it is the only way you can protect yourself if you don't cook everything from scratch. Not always practical I know. I hope you weren't too badly affected and you have now recovered. No doubt you will learn from this mistake.

Always read all ingredients!! I scrutinise everything before I eat it, beware of soups, sauces, condiments, vinegars, even some types of grated cheeses can have flour in the package. We are all different how we react, I get cramping, headache, vomiting within 4 hours of consuming anything with gluten, I've been glutenised twice in one year and that was from cross contamination from a restaurant......I do not eat out anymore😀😮
