Gallbladder and maybe gluten intolerance

Any help would be appreciated I spent 9 hours in A&E three weeks back after a night of constipation and vomiting they told me in the end after running the various tests ultra sound bloods x-ray and urine that I needed to have my gallbladder removed and they would be in touch shortly and arrange an appointment and planned to carry out a test for gluten intolerance and also perform a Colonoscopy. Among my symptoms are bloating constipation indigestion and tenderness on the upper right had side of my tummy no great pain as of yet just sore to touch when I am having an attack, I have been desperately trying to tone up after the winter overeating and neglecting my daily exercise a bit. I started back 12 weeks back eating healthily and exercising as usual but the weight seems to not want to shift from my tummy lower abdominal area like it normally does, I'm at a loss on how to shift this and stay healthy and stop attacks from my gallbladder any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks’

I'm coeliac and my daughter age 21 (not diagnosed as coeliac) had cholecystitis and pancreatitis, many gallstones and had her gallbladder removed last Christmas. With hindsight we think she'd had this problem for at least a year but it was misdiagnosed as a back related muscular problem. I also think she is coeliac, she has lots of digestive problems, including chronic indigestion, urgency to go to the toilet, pain, unable to eat dairy. She's recently been prescribed bile salts and these help a little. But after care has been v poor and she's suffered a lot. Good luck.

Hey there Tess_Lass. It sounds to me like there is a definite reaction to something you're eating and many of the symptoms do point to an issue with gluten. I had massive issues with my gallbladder during my first pregnancy not knowing I couldn't eat gluten. I was in agony in the upper right quadrant (as you have been) most of the time, itchy skin, pale stool and bloating - but there were no stones. If you are in the process of trying to loose weight that will also exacerbate any issues you have with the gallbladder as the bloodstream and liver will be overloaded with toxins the body wants to excrete.

Have you cut gluten out of your diet completely? If not I would recommend doing that for 3 weeks. Make sure you look at all the labels!! Watch for gluten in crazy things like Soya sauce and plain salted crisps. If it says 'due to manufacturing methods may contain... etc' don't buy.

The only issue with taking gluten out of your diet now, is that coeliac/intolerance markers may not show, so you have to make the decision now whether you can endure the pain until they test you or if you want to make changes now.

Another really helpful thing is to take milkthistle herb and drink lots of water with lemon and eat garlic. They all support the gallbladder and liver and help cleanse the system whilst you do your healthy eating phase.

I had cholecysistitis and cholethiasis many years ago and ended up having a cholecystectomy. To prevent an onset of the pain you have to maintain a strictly regulated diet. Small meals at regular intervals all low fat. It is the fat that triggers the release of bile and causes the stones to block the bike duct leading to pain. The small regular meals stops the pressure on the digestive system and therefore onto the gall bladder. The low fat diet is very tasteless and boring but verses the pain is worth putting up with for a short time.
