Hi everyone I opened my emails today and was shocked and so pleased to read one from coeliac UK...apparently people with coeliac disease will now be able to get flour and bread on prescription! Finally we'll be getting what should not have been stopped in the place! Anyone know what I'm talking about 🤔

The reason I'm so pleased is because it's been stopped for majority of areas such as mine

I thought they'd been stopped in all surgeries?that's y this is a big issue?

Mine have never been stopped. I get bread and cereals. I could also have pizza bases if i wanted them. Don't know if they will be stopped.

Haven't they? I thought theyd stopped everywhere that's y it is such a major big deal! Lucky you

Don't get your hopes up too much. At a local level, the decision still rests with CCGs, and any change to mandate provision is unlikely to be a legislative priority. Also, the minister of health's preferred option is stated to be the third outcome in the report i.e. breads and mixes only, no pizza, cakes or biscuits.

You have to have passed all the tests to qualify. Apparently I am not celiac, but I get all the symptoms when ever I have even the smallest amount of gluten, or oats! I was tested twice, both times after not having gluten for many months, but the doctor and consultant both said having gluten for weeks before the test was not necessary.

I have been diagnosed as having coeliac disease so wouldn't need to pass any tests would i

I don't eat anything with gluten bc it causes inflammation. One bite of a biscuit is enough for me to notice the rise of inflammation in my body.

Don't know what you mean?. I was diagnosed as coeliac over 20 years ago and have been able to get bread and flour on prescription since then.

It must be because every place is different then.

There are none where I live and are being removed in most areas. It's not just GF foods but reductions in things like asthma medications too. The NHS can't really be responsible for feeding us when they're struggling to provide emergency care.

It had become ridiculous anyway - aspirin and paracetemol were on prescription yet over the counter just pennies.

Coeliac UK's aim was to get all shops to have staple GF foods and they've achieved that. Okay it's dearer but it's not like the whole family are eating it (if they are that's not a healthy option).

Coeliac prescriptions were introduced at a time when there was nothing for us to buy in the shops and that's not the case today.

Hi in my area telford it was stopped but i dont bother with eating bread or cereals anymore-dont you find prescription bread abit awful? The best one i came across was marks and spencers gf loaf, expensive but nice if you a bread fan.

Not booing the prescriptions-great if you get it but it was not for me sadly.😊
