Ihi. New Member. I am awaiting final diagnosis of skin biopsy as my consultant believes I may have DH. I am diagnosed Type 2 Diabetes but take insulin as I am hugely insulin resistant. Is it possible to have DH associated with type 2? I only ever see type 1 mentioned

You've probably only seen Type 1 mentioned because both Type 1 and DH are both disorders driven by an autoimmune reaction, in DH's case it is gluten. As a skin condition, like Coeliac disease, sufferers have a strong genetic association with HLADQ2 or HLADQ8. Type 1 (insulin-dependent) diabetes mellitus develops as a result of pancreatic beta-cell destruction as the autoimmune reaction.

There is some gene research into the Type 2 but it doesn't share the same gene coding as DH:

So if you are asking "are they linked?" - I would say the answer is probably no and you can have DH without coeliac disease.

Diabetes can affect the skin in several ways, maybe it is one of these:
