Im in LOVE with M&S Gluten Free Chocolate Cake....want to know why?

Because 3/4 of it is butter icing...pure genius!

I am happy for you. However, I am also dairy intolerant and can't eat any of these cakes.

Me too. And M&S apparently think they can't make any of their wheat free range without butter :-( What is wrong with using vegetable or rice bran oils?

Well kinda but there is an arguement for butter along the line of it's a kind of natural fat, so not tampered with in a sense and better for you. Theres some bad press about Veg oil, rice and bran I don't know about.

You know what I think and wonder if anyone agrees, I recon that none of us would have ANY trouble with any of this stuff if a) it wasn't mass produced and b) if it came from source.

I suspect that if you ate the real handmade pasta made in front of you in Italy you wouldnt be intolerant, if the bread you had was from the mill ground by stone and not wrapped in plastic etc. Im sure Im not explaining myself well and over simplifying but you catch my drift.

I know we have to have mass produced food because there are so many of us, Im just saying if it was possible to have the less processed stuff or things that haven't been in refridgerated container van overnight or fruit and veg that is actually in season farmed here, with fewer pesticides etc.

I'm sure someone will tear a strip off me and maybe Celiacs started with Agricultural Farming but maybe they didn't die of it then or have other problems?

Even if I am right I know we cant simply revert to the Armish way of life (apparently they have a problem with dwafism?) Anyway going backwards isnt always possible its how we go forwards which is crucial.

I just wish food were more fun instead of can or cant I eat this....grrrr

I find it hard to believe that anything produced by cows these days is good for you with them being pumped full of growth hormones and antibioitics. There has to be a reason why so many of us cannot consume dairy without severely damaging our insides. :-( I also doubt that M&S are particularly concerned about the health benefits of their food when their shelves are stacked with processed sugar. I think it is the snob value - butter 'sounds' classier than vegetable oil.

I agree that it would be much more beneficial if food was kept closer to it's natural state rather than adulterated and overly processed.

Tell you what Donald you're so right.

For my part Id love to be able to shop in the 'WholeFood' shop all the time, that's the sort of food we should all have access too and be able to afford easily. Still some processed food, but better quality and some local produce. I have been taking fullll advantage of Blackberry picking...yum :-)

Gluten is gluten where ever it comes from. Yes we would still be intolerant even if it was grown in Italy. You have missed the point here, and have belittled many people.

Dairy free margarine works the same as butter. It's no excuse for M&S to claim they need to use butter.

Oh Dartmoor why even trouble myself with the food processor I could just eat those ingredients raw...lol.

My diet is rubbish!...lol

Yummy yum yum. I've just read 'Honeycomb creations' on your other post and I can't take any more. My mouth is watering. I might just have to go and make a cake or two and put some honey in my tea! Lol. Love Sam xxxxxxxx

Look Young Sam, initially I may have been leading people up the BAD eating path with my blatant expose of M&S cake! But now I feel baaadddd, dont do it, try and remain good and pure, go for fruit or chomp on a carrot. Im so going to get thrown off this site for one thing or another...lol.

Well CarolineLondon, I must say that I agree about butter. Butter is better IMHO ;-) Put some pure milk into a jar and shake, and shake and shake... and you have butter eventually.

Shame M&S don't offer a gluten and diary free chocolate cake. I'm into their dark chocolate and you only need a couple squares for true satisfaction. I'll have some after my dinner. :-)
