SLT Results 10 Months Later Good News

Hi everyone, I visited my consultant last week and my eyes are now both 18/18 and no further damage to my eyes. I am really happy about this. I just wanted to post good news. I only take Monoprost in the evening and dry eye drops Thealoz Duo, of which I can highly recommend. It would appear having my pressure around this level is ok for me. However you never know, things can change in an instant as you all know.

I asked my consultant how long should SLT last, and she said maybe 3 years.

I was wearing the plastic glasses to bed to prevent sleeping with my eyes crushed into the pillow, however I have had to stop wearing them as I was getting pressure pain on the side of my head with the arms of the glasses. I try to sleep without my face in the pillow. However, I do worry that the pressure overnight will affect my sight.

I want to post about SLT and keep you all updated for those of you who have had SLT or waiting for SLT.

take care valfrance

What good news about your SLT. Many people do seem to respond very well to the procedure.

My pressures also responded to the SLT but perhaps because I have Normal Tension Glaucoma it was not low enough. For me it seemed to last about 6 months both times, but I am sure it was well worth trying, as I know some people who have very positive results for many years. Even those short periods would have hopefully delayed progress a bit.

I have a memory foam pillow which is firm and difficult to bury my head into, but it is also comfortable.

Do hope your SLT continues it's good work,

Best wishes

Excellent news Valfrance. I'm so pleased for you.Unfortunately it didn't work for me and I'm now on lumigan and cosopt but finding it hard.

I worry about it everyday.

So glad to hear your news. Sorry to rain on your parade, just feeling sorry for myself. Take care x

I know you must have had your hopes that it would work...i did respond to you as your levels were not high after such a short time.

I continued to take monoprost and alphagan for 2 months after my slt..then reduced it to just monoprost when it was around 20 21..it was 28.

i don't think your slt failed at all.. This is a horrible disease we all live in fear constantly..take care valfrance

I have been diagnosed with glaucoma recently. I was put on monopost in December. My next visit I'd in February. Hopefully, the drops will be ok, and no laser or surgery will be needed. Wait and see. Happy to hear some good news!

Hi Hughes, if you have open angled glaucoma SLT laser is usually the first thing they try before drops. Its best on a virgin eye. Perhaps ask about it... you may then not need drops. My SLT was performed 2 years after being on Monoprost. I was being treated for high pressure for 2 years, then it went into glaucoma as my pressure rose. Look at my posts all the information is there on SLT and links. take care valerie

That all sounds like good news. I still haven't been able to see anyone at the hospital so have to wait for my appointment next Friday. I'll be following your progress as the optometrist who referred me back said they would probably do SLT on my eyes.

Hi MelonJ, here is a very informative article about SLT.Its not a cure, however if it does work, at least you don't have to take so many drops or maybe even 1 drop as I do.

Hi valfrance, that’s great news that the SLT has and continues to work for you, let’s hope it lasts for a long time. At least the good thing is that if it has been successful once you stand a good chance of it working again. It was successful for me too and am due back in April and hoping my pressures are still low. At the moment I’m not using any drops so will be interesting to see what is happening when I go back.
