Has anyone else received this same diagnosis or had Covid Associated Pulmonary Aspergillosis (CAPA)?

I'm new here because I was just diagnosed with Covid Associated Pulmonary Aspergillosis (CAPA). I was never in critical condition or put on a ventilator, but now 5 months later, I have developed this condition due to lung damage. I live in Nicaragua in an open, damp house, so that is also a factor. I'm taking itraconazole 200mg every 12 hours because we can't get Vfen in this country. It's really hard to get information on this type of infection and I don't even know what category of aspergillosis to place it in. I would love to learn more about this subject.

My understanding is also that CAPA is something patients in critical care can be diagnosed with. 5 months after infection sounds unusual. Can you tell me how this was diagnosed? Do you have any other comorbidities?

I had a CT scan of my lungs, a blood test, and then a bronchoscopy done. I have no other conditions and was really healthy before Covid hit.

So as suspected earlier this is something we are still working on to try to discover the best ways to treat it. There are active discussion ongoing.

Voriconazole is the drug of choice, itraconazole is usually effective for other types of aspergillosis but there are significant side effects for both that your doctors should make you aware of. Any problems let them know.

I live in Nicaragua so Voriconazole isn't available here. However, we may travel back in a month to the USA and I will switch then unless you know of any issues why that wouldn't be a good idea to change meds.

I would not encourage you to change meds without medical supervision. Antifungal medication is prone to side effects and interactions with other medication you may be taking. Seek medical advice.
