I have been out of the mold for a year now. Been diagnosed with cancer, a month ago i did a sputum culture and i have Fungus and Mold in my lungs. I am on an anti fungal medication for 30 days. They could not identify the exact type of mold in my lungs but they have sent the fungus/yeast off to the UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS for further evaluation?? I am in CA. I had a CT scan done saturday and i have a 5 mm right lobe nodule. The infectious disease doctor said the type of fungus in my lungs doesn't typically get into humans. My voice is hoarse, I'm coughing so hard at night I'm throwing up. Sometimes i get like these little mucous balls, sometimes just mucous and sometimes its a dry cough. Aspergillum was one of the mold found in my place along with a few others including stachybotrys chart arum. They initially told me the fungus was a type of CRYPTOCOCCUS, there are several different types. They are breaking all the way down to the "SOURCE" i guess you could say, they are digging through science to get to the very bottom of where this stuff starts/originates from? I don't know anymore, I'm so confused i don't know how to help them help me.....any positive or honest in put would sure be appreciated....Deena

Cryptococcosis or cryptococcoidomycosis (also referred to as Valley fever) is rare but can infect regardless of your immune status. There is a detailed description (intended for doctors) here bestpractice.bmj.com/topics...

It tends to infect people who have visited deserts rather than be found in our homes.

It sounds like your doctors are managing the infection well and by now should have a better idea what organism is infecting your lungs. It is important that they are able to accurately identify the organism causing the infection.

We have written a short article describing it in less clinical detail here life-worldwide.org/fungal-d...

Hi Gatherton and thank you. Well they said it is CRYPTCOCOCCOSIS DIFFLUENS. The infectious disease doctor had me on a 30 day treatment of DIFLUCAN, she has me see her after being on it for 27 days and informs me that the cryptococcosis is resistant to the diflucan. She then tells me that there are a lot of people have to co habitats with mold and fungus in their lungs because it colonizes. So here i sit coughing up a storm while my oncologist has put my surgery on hold until my cough is gone........sooo frustrating!
