Hi just looking for anyone with experience of Grapeseed Extract in dealing with Candida Albicans. Have ordered some drops to try and seen great reviews so far. Am already taking a probiotic and digestive enzymes and looking to detox and follow an anti-Candida diet x

When someone complains that they are having problems with Candida it can mean several things. They might be having gut problems due to something commonly referred to as 'candida overgrowth', or they might be having problems with infections of the mouth or vagina commonly referred to as candidiasis.

Many 'candida diet' websites also advocate taking various supplements and antifungal substances - grapefruit seed extract has useful antifungal activities when tested on microbes grown in a laboratory and has been tested for use in keeping food clean for example, however there is little evidence that it has been tested in people. That testing is important if we are going to claim it has an impact on our gut or after it has been absorbed after we have eaten it. Our bodies change and dilute chemicals we eat quite rapidly so without testing we cannot claim that eating a certain amount will have any effect at all. NOTE that companies selling these products will have suitable disclaimers in place, often in terms and conditions.

If I were you I would save my money and use it on a balanced diet. If you have specific infections a visit to your doctor is required.

NB grapefruit extract and other supplements can interfere with several prescription medications. Ensure that your doctor knows that you are taking any supplements alongside any medications you may have been given.

I also take this extract but Caprylic Acid capsules, derived from coconut, are the best supplement & have been used for more than 2 decades now. First time I had an issue getting these cost me £60 because they were so new.

on ebay or other health shops Lindens products are economically priced, good quality & very available.

Some supplements have both extracts ... see candida tablets on Amazon UK Also grapefruit seed extracts. These are more commonly used than grape. I believe they may be less acidic. For candida keeping alkali is important. However I am taking an immune booster which is grapeseed extract & they also may have other beneficial properties see here...

It is possible to influence the pH (acid & alkaline levels) a little in parts of your gut depending on what you eat, but the pH of your body (eg bloodstream) is very tightly controlled and is not influenced by what you eat.

Alkaline diets persuade us to eat more fruit & vegetables - that is likely to do most of us some good as those food contain many beneficial substances including fresh vitamins & minerals & dietary fibre.
