My wife suffered from finger nail fungis, she tried oral medication, creams and lazer treatment all wiltour success. Was in the USA and someone recommended Vick Vapour rub. She has applied it three times a day for a month and it has worked wonders - worth trying

Thank you T 1940. I have tried out your tip of Vicks vapour rub - well superdrug own brand at half the price - for over a week and symptoms of fungal nail and athlete's foot seem to have reduced and texture and healthy aspect of skin improved. Hoping that underlying problem will be cured too and that it's not just symptoms, although that's very welcome, and my feet feel extra clean, soft and a bit tingly!

Interesting idea! All you really need to do is make your nails difficult for fungi to grow on. This can be by keeping them dry (wear open toed sandals?) or by topical applications that change the pH of the nail (many swear by the use of daily soaks in vinegar) or which contain antimicrobials (eg Tea Tree oil). I assume Vicks falls into that category.

You doctor may try various antimicrobial creams but it is difficult to get the active ingredient into a nail and the nail bed. Some have success with an oral antifungal eg itraconazole for a week or two. In extreme cases nails can be removed.

Let us know how well Vicks works in the longer term.
