Gabapentin withdrawal.

I found side effects not worth limited pain relief benefit and have stopped taking the Gabapentin. Withdrawal symptoms have reduced but I still get headaches and have hot sweats after two months. Does anyone know how long withdrawal symptoms may last? If I had been warned of the possibility of this I would not have ever taken them!!!!!

I’m about to try and come off Pregabalin for the very same reason. I’m scared of the pain becoming a lot more severe than it already is, as well as the nasty withdrawal symptoms, but I hate how Pregabalin make me feel. I was originally on Gabapentin, but only for a few months as it made me feel poorly. With hindsight it was not worse than how the Pregabalin make me feel!

I’d be interested to hear how you get on coming off the Gabapentin. I’m guessing, although i don’t know, that the withdrawal symptoms would be similar for both.

Good luck

Hi everyone, I went to my GP and said I wanted to come off gabapentin because of the side effects. My GP told me I would be able to come off then in a couple of weeks. I queried this and he told me that after taking gabapentin for 6 months they stop working anyway. I have reduced my dose by one third one month ago and cannot feel I can reduce it any more just yet, I have to feel right to try to reduce it by another third. I did not like to argue with my GP so I am trying to reduce gabapentin as and when I feel okay. I have been taking gabapentin for 6 years now and when I was first diagnosed with fibro I would have taken anything to get rid of the pain. All the best to everyone out there and have a good stress free and quiet christmas

Hi Lou-Lou-01,

That sounds awful but I’m glad you’re doing it at your own pace.

Good luck with it and take care x

Good luck - I would recomend slow reduction as I just stopped and it wasn't comfortable.
