My Original "Reply" to the Post: I have neuropathy but I'm not diabetic

About a year ago during an annual exam with my VA doctor, ! was diagnosed with non-diabetic peripheral neuropathy of my feet. I had originally thought that I had caused this strange feeling in my feet due to water aerobics and jumping up and down on the un-smooth surface of the pool floor. I am taking 600 mg of Gabapentin in the morning and in the evening, but never really felt much in the way of pain until recently when I failed to renew my prescription in a timely manner and had to cut back on my dosage for a number of days. Perhaps I have just been fortunate not to have experienced real pain. I describe the sensations feeling like I have bubble wrap in my shoes! Unfortunately, I think I am a borderline diabetic. Not diabetic now but my Triglycerides are a tad higher than recommended but that level has come down over the last year. I am also considered borderline obese and struggle to lose weight which I have been somewhat successful in achieving. All my bloodwork was perfect with the minor exceptions of the Triglycerides level and low levels of sodium and creatine which are the result of not drinking enough water to flush those elements out of my system. Unfortunately I have just obtained a 2004 report in thr Journal of the American Board of Family Practice which suggests that non-diabetic peripheral neuropathy can be a pre-cursor to Type 2 Diabetes. Heaven forbid! Having read ahead the next "Reply" suggests we mau be suffering from Beri Beri and the drug Benfotiamine can be effective in treating and reversing both diabetic and non-diabetic neuropathy! Sounds encouraging!

Hi Donaldo, have a look at the book/website "Could it be B12" lots so reading but it is interesting.

Also look on the web site TPAUK. Both under active thyroid and b12 deficiency can cause the symptoms you describe.

Good luck
