A very good topic was brought up on the facebook page about wearing medical bracelets. I wonder how many had thought about it and then followed through....

I do not, but have recently thought about it. As well as I stay current on my symptoms and what is my "normal" and medication list, it is almost impossible for my husband to. When this information is needed most, I am rarely in a condition to verbalize it. We try and stay very up to date, but also have found I keep things to myself not wanting to worry my family more than they do already. This is also not a good idea because in an ER visit wrong information or not all the information is then given.

I've thought about wearing a medical bracelet. I even have a page to order one bookmarked on my computer. I keep an updated list of medications, brief medical history, insurance information, allergy list, and my doctors' names and numbers in an envelope in my purse. I am always with someone who knows me but I can't expect them to remember all of those details...especially in an emergency. I also worry something might happen to the person I'm with...such as a heart attack or car accident...and they would be too ill or hurt to help me. Just a hint for those who do not carry a purse...I've used a backpack in the past to carry things. The backpack is also more likely to stay with me if I fall...my purse just goes flying when I get wobbly or fall.

I do not, but have wondered if this would be recommended for my disorder, as I can become unable to speak at times, have siezures, tremors, etc.

Have a look at this website. I was bought this bracelt by my sister in law. It has my name, condition and says await recovery. It has a small wallet like purse which holds an open out card where you can state your condition, what to do and who to call. You can register with the company where they will advice the person who is helping you. I am happy just having the braclet and its fairly inexpensive if you buy the rubber type band.

Thinking about getting a bracelet as well. Just trying to figure out what exactly to put on it.

Have others just listed symptoms? Ex. seizure like, loss of speech, weakness. Looking for ideas as others with diagnoses can easily put what it is.

I'm having the same problem, my neurologist has suggested several things that could be wrong with me but it seems like I'm atypical for just about everything. I refuse to believe that I am the only person in the world with these types of attacks. I would like some sort of bracelet so stores and others would stop calling an ambulance for me when all I need is help getting home, there is nothing the ER can do for me but they think I'm having a stroke or something, probably scared about liability if they let me leave. I don't know what to put on a bracelet. "Unknown neurological condition that has the best doctors stumped"?

i have one, cause of allergy to opiates. have listed FND main symptoms eg loss of sensation/movement, difficulty breathing. whatever i would want them to know as i live alone and still, occasionally, manage to go out alone.

I live alone and sometimes venture out alone also, although I never know when I leave my house if I'm going to able to get back on my own. I have a backpack on wheels because it helps a lot if I'm able to hold on to something. I have a walker for at home but I'm so embarrassed to take it out, I feel old beyond my years, a cane doesn't give me enough support. I'm thinking about a Service Dog with a harness handle.

Hi, I think you really exaggerate people's reaction about your walker - in fact, it is such a big help that I do not care a bit if somebody is staring. I am only 40, but without a walker I would be unable to go shopping or to other places where I have to walk distances. I bought the model which can be used as a wheelchair, too - because even with a walker I can not walk too much. I go literally everywhere with it, even travelling. I do not care, it is not my fault that I have almost lost my ability to walk. And, because I do no qualify for disability with the FND diagnosis in my country, I can always tell anybody who is too interested - why, I am not disabled, I have limited mobility, any other questions?

Thanks, you guy have given me something to think about. Maybe it's time to put away that foolish pride and use what the Doctor ordered for me. I know I would have far fewer falls if I did.

They say pride cometh before the fall. I don't like to be embarrassed at all but I really don't like broken bones. I find that I'm much more confident from a vertical posture, so I am utilizing a staff. So far so good. But I do absolutley understand your reluctance.

If you're going to do it, then own it. Why not color or decorate or enhance somehow your assistive device and make it yours? Accessories can be fun!

I bought a bright red staff. Then I went back and ordered a purple one, just for choice.

I hope you keep moving .

Blessings to all
