I am just wondering if anyone has experienced there jaw locking I am currently in hospital and being in from a week yesterday and still no further forward there saying it’s symptoms of my fnd getting worse just wondering if anyone has had it before and did they manage to get your mouth open again ?

Hi! Could it be Temporomandibular disorder or TMJ lots of things can cause a locked jaw, including Tetanus.
Hope they find out what is causing it soon!
Hey there,You poor thing! My daughter (18) has ME, fibromyalgia, non epileptic seizures disorder, violent tics and FND (although as we understand all of her previous health conditions come under the umbrella of FND). She had violent seizures/tics, one of which was a clamping down of the mouth and being unable to unclamp it for a considerable time. A couple of months ago she could not get her mouth open for an entire shopping trip. She always found taking her mind of it was the most helpful thing to do, but of course that is not always easy. We did find that if her mouth was busy she didn’t do any tics or seizures which involved her mouth. For a time she wore a baby chew toy round her neck and chewed on that each time she got a feeling in her tummy that it was about to happen. Eventually, we tried her on chewing gum which has worked so well for her. It has been a bit of miracle actually. Chewing the gum stopped all the seizures and all the tics, both verbal and motor. It’s like giving the muscle group something different to do, the muscles in question are so busy doing that action they forget to do anything else. We have used the same principle on her other motor tics and seizures with astounding results.
I know that doesn’t help you now but it might stop it happening again? Anyway, I hope it helps in some capacity - I know how scared she was and we are sending all our best wishes. X

I am honestly worried sick it is so painful and as I am on drips etc as can’t eat or drink and feel like the neurologist and physio doesn’t know what to do either . Did her mouth open it’s self or did they have to do surgery etc ?
It opened on its own, but apart from trying to distract herself, she had no control over when she was able to open her mouth. She was hospitalised once because her body was seizuring at the same time as her jaw locking, but she has never had it long enough that she had to be fed through a tube. I’m so sorry you are going through this. It is all very horrible and scary and is possibly made worse by medical personnel who don’t fully understand FND. I hope you have some relief very soon x
Hi Yes I had it a few years ago, It's horrible. I was really struggling even to open it wide to eat as it would cause pain down my face, it lasted for a few months but thank goodness I haven't had it back since but I have had the pain down my face now and again so I think it must be a FND symptom. Hope it goes away soon for you as it's not nice at all

Yeah it’s my right side of my face that’s affected , my neck , and right arm however this is the first time I have ever experienced my jaw locking and such a scary experience being stuck in hospital on alsorts or drips and just feel like no one is telling me anything sept it’s my fnd but worried sick of it will open again and when 🙈x
It might take a while to ease but hopefully it won't be long before you can open your jaw properly. You sound like you're having a bad relapse. Hope you get better soon x

My jaw locks (in the open position), and thankfully it wore off and is not as bad, but it can still stay stuck for several minutes when I'm anxious or after yawning. I wish you the best. Pay attention to it, and don't be afraid to talk to a dentist. The extra stress on my jaw triggered a case of TMJ for me.
Thankyou so much for your reply, they have managed to open it slightly in hospital hoping it goes back to normal soon as it’s painful and so sore when I am trying to eat or drink , hope your ok .x
