Jerky rest

Lately when I have a rest in the afternoon, I will almost fall asleep and I start jerking. I need a rest in the afternoon because of my heart. It's very frustrating.

Almost always ,when I relax, I have myoclonic full body jerks. They are intermittent and random. The most noticeable, and peculiar, is when watching TV. It is very common for me to have a full body jerk when a program breaks for a commercial :) Go figure?

My sister always thought I did full body jerks in public only when I'm nervous. But she is one of those that think positivity will lessen all my symptoms. Thank you for replying, after a bit, you think you are imagining it. Take care.

It's distressing, isn't it? One of my symptoms was eventually diagnosed as FND seizures. I would wake up with that spasmodic moving but sometimes had launched my self out of bed in my sleep. It seems to be around sleep and tapping into deep sleep.

Hope you get some help. The only thing that really helped me was 5mg diazepam but because doctors are paranoid about giving these out in the UK, I now have amitryptalin but it's not as good. The last time I spoke to a health professional she went against my GPs advice about the amitryptalin, saying it was dangerous if you take an overdose. Since I am more focussed on getting better than committing suicide, I found that unhelpful, insensitive and ludicrous.

Thank you for responding. I take too much medications to add more, spent too many years in deep depression, I used to have diazepam on daily pickup which is a pain. Just have to work with what I have. Take care.

Hi Moniren,

I have these too. Since I was in my 20's I would jerk from the bottom of my spine upwards when I was watching tv late at night and often when I was trying to go to sleep. But in the last two years (when my other more debilitating FND symptoms developed) they have started happening throughout the day any time I am resting.

I am not keen on medication as I have had side effects from most I have been given, so I have had to accept these jerks (which sometimes cause me to bump myself against things hurting myself) are another thing I have to learn to live with. I have also developed a facial twitch which happens when I am trying to go to sleep (it's very annoying).

When the jerks started happening in the day I was concerned that I had Tourette's syndrome, my son has Tourrette's and I have read of lots of cases where parents have had low level tics all their life but when their child developed tics theirs became more extreme. But having monitored my jerks closely for the past year I am convinced they are not the same as Tourrete's as my son's tics happen regardless of how tired or energetic he is feeling whereas my jerks only happen when I am tired and I have pushed myself beyond my limits.

I have lots of sensory symptoms and problems and I have noticed that my jerks happen most frequently when I have experienced sensory overload. The only thing that I have found that helps me to get to sleep when my jerks are bad is a heavy blanket. I sometimes borrow my sons' weighted blanket and it's so effective I'm thinking of getting one for myself.

I hope you find some relief from the jerks as they are very frustrating. I think there is some information about these jerks on the neurosymptoms website if you haven't already found it. Good luck and I hope rest finds you.

Thank you for that suggestion, weighted blanket. Yes, my face twitches and my hands splay out. I've been finding my symptoms are progressing but I'm one of the fortunate ones who don't have migraines and not in a wheelchair, so look at things to be grateful for. Face every day as a new day. Thank you for responding. Take care.
