FND, POTS and non-epileptic seizures

Hi all,

Anyone out there relate to this combination of things? I was gardening today for about 20 minutes and I was getting tired but not too badly. Then I suddenly got really light headed and dizzy and had to lie down, in case I was about to pass out. While lying on the grass i went into one of the biggest seizures I’ve had for a while. I’m starting to wonder if I might have POTS as well as FND. Does this make sense to anyone?

I was diagnosed with FND 18 months ago, triggered by a really nasty bout of vertigo, and the FND diagnosis has mostly made sense to me. I do fairly regularly get light headed but I always blamed it on the FND. However I am now starting to think there are other things going on as well.

Thanks for all your comments and messages, I’ve learnt a lot from reading here.

Julia :)

Hi Juli99 I went to a cardiologist recently and had my heart checked because of a fainting spell and some lightheadedness. Tests were normal thank goodness. Now i have peace of mind that it is the FND. I hope this helps you :)

Hi Juli99. Pots is diagnosed by a heart rate that increases by more than 30 bpm when you go from resting to standing up. It can cause lightheaded ness, shortness of breath, high heart rate and weakness amongst other things. This is caused by blood pooling in your legs and not being pumped up to the rest of your body. Pots is usually secondary to another organic illness such as genetic, autoimmune or others.

Just because your neuro couldn’t work out what was wrong with you, doesn’t mean there is nothing wrong (as implied with FND diagnosis). The majority of Pots patients are diagnosed with psychological illness first before being diagnosed with pots. And usually there are coexisting illnesses.

Keep looking for answers.

I have pots and have siezures everytime I go for a walk. Before pots diagnosis neurologist suspected I had fnd. I'm not sure if I have fnd as well as pots. I just wish I knew which one is causing my siezures. Are you still getting siezures?

Thank you for your reply. I’ve realised I am not getting seizures as much as muscle spasms when I get adrenaline surges/dumps especially first thing in the morning. How did you get diagnosed with Pots, do you mind sharing?

Thanks :)
