Just can’t stand the pain!

Following a serious car accident 39 years ago I’ve had chronic back pain but now the nerve pain is so bad I can’t stand it and so frequent.

It start when my lower back gets hot, where the fluid gathered after the car accident.

I now have stabbing pain like v bad pins and needles plus my legs twitch and kick out mostly in my legs but also my back and arms.

I take pain killers but they take so long to work, and don’t get rid of it.

I am desperate now, can’t sleep as worse when I lie down.

Does anyone else have this and know what I can to to stop it? ☹️

Hi

I suffered with red hot burning in my left leg and right foot I now take 900mg of garbapentin 3 times a day. They do have some side effects but for me it was worth it. Burning sensation in left leg gone and right foot it has reduced it so it only happens a few days a month.

Regards

Mark

Hi

Sorry your suffering, have you tried gabapentin not used it myself but was offered it though but at the time I was still working and the poss sedative side effect made me reluctant as a spaced out vet nurse is not a good idea. Now I’m not working at moment I am thinking of trying it as I find my pins and needles are worse when lying down too. I am seeing a Medical Herbalist in a couple of weeks to start treatment so I’m holding off until seen them.

It is being used in veterinary medicine now to help nerve pain, I trialled it with one of my cats Gizzmo and it’s worked really well and he’s now on it long term at a low dose and doesn’t seem to cause a sedative effect but definitely helps him.

I hope this helps you in some way and you find something that eases the pain soon.

Hi

Garbapentin has certainly helped me with nerve pain and I wouldn’t get around at all if I stoped taking it.

Tried one a year ago and I was going back to square on with pain just proved to myself that’s it is really working.

I’m lucky as I only get a few side affects

I’ll ask the GPl! I really can’t stand it all as most of the day I’m in pain but many times in the day, especially at night, it’s horrendous.

Hi, I really really wish I knew how to stop the pain. The only thing that I have found that can help me extraordinarily slightly and sometimes not at all is extremely hot baths - scalding hot that is. And I have to lie flat on the floor of the bar under the water. I have 4 to 5 on these baths a day. I also spend my days and nights lying on three boiling-hot hot water bottles. I have damaged my skin significantly. I use ice packs on my skull sometimes depending on the kind of pains in my head at that moment. I have tried oral painkillers including gabapentin but none of them have ever worked for me and one made me worse. Plus they gave me a lot of side-effects and didn’t take away the pain so it wasn’t really worth it. The only painkiller I have ever had any relief with his when a neurosurgeon who was at a clinic I was treated at injected me almost daily all over my back my neck my skull with anaesthetic. The process of injection was very painful but afterwards I did feel some relief but it didn’t last long and I would be back for more the next day. I did this for a month and don’t know how long I would’ve been able to do it for. I don’t know if any of this will be any help to you but as I know how awful it is I wanted to just share what I do. The kinds of furniture and mattress's and things like that also make differences but I’m sure after all these years you’re well aware of these things. Best wishes, Lucy
