FND diagnosis, yet Insurance refuses to pay me.

My insurance won't pay me because of my neurologist said I was fit to work soon. Which I am not. I am highly suicidal due to the pain. It's that bad.

I applied for my medical leave last summer by my regular doctors. They did not accept it because they were not neurologist . So I will end up pennyless and jobless.

I have an appointment with her this week. What can I do? What can I say to my neurologist? She saw me once, no physical inspection yet, it's her word against everyone.

I am in Canada and this is my only hope.

If you have an account on Facebook, you can join a group called "FND Hope US/Canada". There used to be an active member named A___ in British Columbia who might be able to help you. I haven't seen her post for a while. She was unable to work because of her FND, she lived in a homeless shelter, and now she lives in government-subsidized housing.

If you go to work and are unable to work there, that would be proof that you are unable to work because of your FND. I admit that it would be embarrassing for coworkers to see you with FND symptoms.

Hi,

Have you tried the FND Hope website? They have patient advocacy and may be able to intervene on your behalf.

As nobody knows how long FND episodes last, then it is hard to think where the neurologist got the idea that you will be ready for work soon - crystal ball or magic wand perhaps? Medical opinion is supposed to be based on evidence based research and if they are not basing their opinion on that then it is grounds for complaint.

It sounds like you need help fast. I know the UK team are great and I'm sure there should be someone able to help you now you have a Canadian team.

Good luck and remember you are not alone. xx

Yes and thank you. I will definitely do as you said. It's crazy to think that it's standard to be "ok" at the end of 12 no question asked.

Try seeing if an antidepressant will reduce your pain. There are several types: tricyclics (amitriptyline), SSRIs, and SNRIs. I don't know if MAOIs or a tetracyclic (mirtazapine) would reduce pain.

Keep hope in your heart, there is always a way forward - look at us all out here similar to you. There will be help out there, many recommendations already made prove it so, but the frustration comes from not knowing or where to look. This in turn is likely to agitate your already delicate condition making yourself worse. So then, information is the key. Set yourself small goals, let's say this week you will look on the FND Hope site and spend the following few days reading it through thoroughly, making notes (important - we all know what our memories can be like), and then following-up on what you have learned. Simple small steps targeted at say one every few days, one a week, whatever. You will quickly realise you are beginning to make some sort of progress which in turn will alter your mood and outlook. So you have a neurologist that seems as much use as a bad smell in an elevator. Step out. Find another elevator or route to your destination and don't dwell on other peoples inadequacies. Everybody is wrong from time to time. Stay strong, get information and act on it, you'll feel a whole lot better for trying.
