A new study reveals how a clotting protein and blood platelets can promote cancer progression and suppress immune responses to cancer

I believe my amigo Nalakrats has stressed the importance of this and may weigh in on this one... Ohio State University researchers show how Thrombin, a clotting protein causes blood platelets to release TGF-b1which is known to cause progression in prostate cancer and suppress immune system responses to cancer...

sciencedaily.com/releases/2...

Key findings include:

•Thrombin cleaves a molecule called GARP (glycoprotein A repetitions predominant) that is found on the surface of platelets;

•GARP cleavage leads to the release of mature TGF-1b from platelets;

•This cleavage is required to activate platelet TGF-b1;

•Blocking thrombin using the inhibitor dabigatran etexilate greatly altered the tumor microenvironment and increased the number and activity of tumor-infiltrating T cells, natural killer cells and neutrophils.

The Science is Coming !!! Come on....SCIENCE !!!!

• Blocking thrombin using the inhibitor dabigatran etexilate * (see PS below) greatly altered the tumor microenvironment and increased the number and activity of tumor-infiltrating T cells, natural killer cells and neutrophils.

"Overall, our study reveals a mechanism of cancer immune evasion that involves thrombin-mediated GARP cleavage and the release of TGF-b1 by platelets," Li says. "It also suggests that blocking GARP cleavage could be an effective therapeutic strategy for overcoming cancer's resistance to immunotherapy."

As always, Thanks for the Science, Fish.

With Pradaxa already on the market, I am surprised that they are not trying some of the immunotherapy trials with Pradaxa to get more "bang for the buck" ...it is something to keep in mind for things like APCEDEN or other vaccines...Thanks for the reply...

My Stress was NEGATIVE.... no cardiac cath for this Fish...

K9 Captain,

I may have to go get an early license as it has been reasonably warm for winter...50's-60's....if the rain would just let the water clear for a few days....

What amount and when do you dose? My husband is taking 3 per day, on an empty stomach in the morning I think.

If you are referring to the Dr's Best Nattoserra then I take it daily-- at night and Aspirin 2x a day...the person to ask more on this issue would be Nalakrats as he is the best read on supplements.... The label states no established daily doseage...Hope this helps...

Nal,

It was the LAD--left anterior descending and it was 99% occluded in 1 area, 90% in another, and 85% in a 3rd...I did NOT have an MI by the grace and mercy of God...On a Friday afternoon, after my cardiac catheterization, they said..."We would put you on the operating table right now, but we do not have staff now...On Monday morning, you will have open heart surgery.. Don't do anything strenuous--sit at home..."-- and I did.... LIMA bypass graft... Quite the story... God is not done with me here yet...

You--Dead and Me--Near Dead with a fatal MI---they call the LAD MI's--"The Widowmaker" as people routinely fall into fatal arrhythmias when they occur...

As I frequently tell people, I have evaded Death a number of times including a car crash where the rear end of my car was driven up to the back of my driver's seat and I was hit by multiple vehicles, including the finale of a Cadillac Escalade smashing into the driver's door knocking me unconscious... I awoke to the gentle call of ,"Hey Buddy, Are you ok?? " and crawled across the front seat to the passenger door slowly as fuel leaked out on the road all around the vehicle...

I guess we are here for a reason, Nal....

More than one sounds good...As for the car....can't blame you there..... That was some crazy wreck... here's the finale on that story, my Ex-wife, when I called afterwards and said I needed a lift, told me, "Can't you make it home on your own??"... You can see why she is the EX.... what a treasure she was...

Never heard of snakeheads and had to look them up:

Freezing snakeheads is a way to assure they’re dead -- sort of like shooting zombies in the head. They are voracious eaters of other fish, birds and mammals, and have an otherworldly ability to survive on land for up to four days, experts say.
