Should have worn gloves ,but you prob did count as chaperone tho I did go for a examination under a scan thing my fiance was there but so we're 2 nurses tho this was hospital not go surgery

I went to see my GP about something similar first time was a male doctor and he asked me whether I wanted a nurse present but I just said it didn't matter because I felt comfortable with him but he did wear gloves and all doctors should wear gloves because of infection I know as I work in a hospital, but when I saw my female doctor she also wore gloves but wouldn't let my husband sit with me. But then it was a small cubicle with no other chair to sit on. If you have concerns then you should ask at reception to see the Practice Manager who then can advise you if there is anything wrong. I hope I have been of some help, don't hesitate to ask me any other concerns you have as I have quite good knowledge of GP or Hospital practice. All the best....Aisha x

Good advice already given here I can only add the GP probably thought the chaperone bit was done by yourself .. BUT ,,, gloves should have been worn .. I think you should address this matter to your practice manager...

As you accompanied her, the doctor may have assumed that a chaperone wasn't needed. If she had been on her own, a chaperone should certainly have been offered but is not essential if the patient doesn't want one.

BUT if your wife wanted a female chaperone and felt she could not ask, it is worth raising this with the practice manager. It would have been better practice if the doctor had asked whether your wife wanted a female chaperone anyway (and this would be even more important in the cases of women accompanied by men who are NOT their partner, or, horribly, if their partner was abusive).

Did the doctor wash his hands before and after the exam?

Ive worked for GP'S for years and it was never allowed to do an examination without a nurse or shaparone in the room. Doin an examination without gloves is also not common practise either????? Id be speaking to the Surgery Manager asap, Im not saying they was anything untoward but its not common policy.

I'm sure your wife would have been offered a chaperone had you not been with her. In the practice where I work all the female admin team have been trained to chaperone in case there is no nurse available - and believe me, we are in charge when in the examining room. We decide when the patient is ready for the doctor and we stay until the patient is dressed and comfortable and ready for us to leave. If they want us there throughout the consult then there we stay if the doctor likes it or not. However, they should have worn gloves as this is standard practice to protect both doctor and patient. You are well within your rights to complain to the practice manager about this. x

A husband counts as a chaperone unless you have specifically requested a female nurse, but not wearing gloves is very improper!

It would be best to complain to the practice manager - they will not disclose your identity to the doctor concerned.

Report him, there is no way he should be touching patients in sensitive areas without disposable gloves.

Hi there

Since you was present it is ok .

If Dr's are not available or knowledgeable then they will get some one in

I have had this done to me before but totally different things.

So do not panic of worry!!

If you had not been there and wife alone then you could possibly of said something but its also down to a patient to ask for another person to be present if uncomfortable .

It would only be bad practice if a problem she had below and was asked to be stripped completely naked!

This happened to me at 18 in a small village Dr's ( i wont go into it on your post)

But i have learnt a lot now .
