I know what you mean about not wanting to let family know how you are feeling. Try and see your doctor again and try to talk to them about your pain and what you need x

You have my sympathy!

I had shingles very badly two years ago, and although the rash went quite quickly, I couldn't put a bra on for about six weeks because I was so sore along my ribs.

I found that a well-wrapped ice-pack would ease the pain quite a lot, I always recommend trying an ice-pack for pain - the French use ice to soothe EVERYTHING - but people think I'm crazy in this cold climate!

It's worth a try, tho, - it might help you.

I hope you feel better soon.

Not had them myself but know of those who have and how painful they can be. One Naval Officer I worked with was convinced he had a brain tumour he was in so much pain - turned out to be shingles in his scalp!

Hope you get some relief soon.

Hi linlit

I really feel for you!!

My 12 yr old got shingles last year just before she turned 12! And i was so upset because where she kept saying had pain i said growing pains i cried when she was in bed because it was under her little bra strap and i said to her to take off then she showed me some little spots and they were on her back too ,

She had to keep lying down and she would jump up and down i felt extremely frustrated for her and just kept lacing her in calamine lotion

She played in a football team and has just given it up as she is always porly and she suffers a lot of symptoms i do too but recovers quicker and then ill again her attendance has fallen low.

My grandad had it above his eye and that was not nice so

I truly do feel for you there.

If the gabapentin not helping have they tried lyrica ?

I am near maximum dose now but its helped me so much whilst been in it.

Anyways very gentle hugs to you and really hope it eases soon xxxxxxxxx

Hu gz feel better soon

Hi linlit, I unfortunately appear to be one of the unlucky people who have reoccurring shingles. I can get them 2-3 times a year & usually in the same area at top of my ribcage to just round past my shoulder on my back. It is very painful & itchy & I cant wear a bra when I get them. Fingers crossed I wont this year. I've been told they can be stress related. Take care.

Ouch I only have had them once all over my right shoulder I remember the pain and it was about 10 years ago .. please go back to your GP and see what he can offer 4 weeks is a long time to be suffering shingles pain , fortunately mine cleared up quickly but the memory of the pain lingers

Fingers crossed

i have shingles permanently and yes they are very painfull i commented as firstly i see a prof of immunology and he prescribed me vaclovir twice daily these may help. Also today was injected with a shingles vaccine . The tablets do not get rid of the shingles( ive had them 5 years now) but they lesson the attack and i am told the vaccine which has only been licensed in the UK since Dec will too. So perhaps you could take this info to your GP. Or perhaps you could get referred to an immunologist :) x
