i was assest several years ago at the time it was thought i had RA but i think its just if you have problems with your physical and or mental health you can phone them and ask im not sure if they can offer any other help besides the equipment and alterations to your home but it would not hurt to ask, good luck at let us know if they do xx

The criteria will vary from area to area afaik. They can offer various things, such as help from careworkers, aids and adaptions.

If you have a carer, it I well worth them having a carers assessment also - when I used to be really sick we had help with housework, not for me, but because doing all the housework as well as being my carer & working full-time was the last straw for my husband, SS recognised that they needed him to continue to be my carer or they'd have a bigger problem!

Think the help depends on where you live. I was awarded a personal budget to spend on having someone to help around the house and take me out etc etc. Also given some aids and equipment round the house. And my husband had a carers assessment (he works full time) and is given a grant each year to spend on doing activities for himself.

my social worker said that the area that I live in wont give money for help with housework which is what I really needed. She said to get back to her if I needed any help with personal care and she would write a letter to help with housing and benefits ...which she never did! (chocolate teapot!)

Thanks everyone for your responses. Amanda perhaps you can remind your social worker that you are expecting the letter and are concerned it may have gone missing in the post. I need help with housework and being accompanied when out. My Local Authority is very tight, which brings me to the same services could be across the nation and not differ so much. x

They all say they're tight on money but with the right assessment you should get all the help you need. I was told to base everything on my worst days, which means I can't do anything alone. I now hav a budget for a carer for 16hrs a week, to help with personal care, housework, socializing. It depends on your needs...I live with my teenage daughter who is in 6th form. As she helps look after me too, she also had an assessment & had money for driving lessons & can apply for respite money so she can hav a holiday. Get the ball rolling hun. We're all entitled but not told about this kinda help. Good luck xx

Hi, sorry for asking but how did you go about getting a assessment . I have never heard of having a social worker once you are an adult. I also have a wonderful daughter who is also in 6 th form and helps me all the time

Sorry again for asking but do you mind saying what your diagnosis is.

I,am only asking as I am laying in bed waiting for the MST and Oramorph to start working so I can get out of bed.

Thanks

Caroline

Caroline71 what county or city do you live in. You have. Social

Workers for disabled people, older people, etc.

I think you should have one if you are in bed and your daughter may benefit from a carers assessment.

Message me your county and I will try get details for you and provide any advice I can to anyone as I am a social worker for adults aswell as having fibro.

Hi, I live in Hertfordshire, uk

I don't know if I worded it right but I don't have social worker, I wasn't aware I was in anyway able to have one or if having one would be useful.

I just know unless things improve, I will need more help than what I get from my daughter in the not to distance future, and I have no idea where I would find that help. Another 18 months and my daughter will be away to uni and although I get loads of help from my mum she is in her 70's now

Regards

Caroline

i think it depends where you ive. I needed help with housework, but the don't cover that, they also have cut down on the number of ads available too, but you should speak with your SS they will tell you xx

Social services will only provide services and personal budgets to those people who need assistance with washing and dressing. If you need assistance with this, then you may be eligible for other services such as shopping, housework, aids and adaptations. You can check if you would be eligible for a service by Google Fair Access to Care Eligibility Guidelines. Most local authorities work to substantial and critical need.

I would give your social worker a call too to remind/check if completed. Most social workers in the adult sector are dealing in excess of 45 cases, we can have things that may get missed.

Thank you this is good information for my situation. (Re: washing and dressing) which I am able to do most days. It seems pointless me applying then.
