I had Acupuncture on my leg this morning and now 6 hours later, my leg feels so much better. I can definately recommend acupuncture for Fibromyalgia. Studies have been done on Acupuncture and Fibromyalgia and it has been found that this is beneficial for this rotton disorder

I had a lot of acupuncture and it helped mechanical issues with back and hips but I struggle with rib pain since being diagnosed with fibro and it wasn't successful for that,

glad it has helped you today, anything is worth a try.

Maggie

Hello there Sheena, I am so pleased you felt some relief from your Acupuncture session. However, we must point out that Acupuncture tends to be short term relief from our symptoms of Fibromyalgia i.e. the effect doesn't last for long.

However, Physiotherapy is a recommended treatment and highly recommended for Fibromyalgia with lasting effect. Here is some info on this which hopefully will be of interest to you and other members -

fibroaction.healthunlocked....

Excerpt from the article -

"Many physiotherapists do seem to offer Fibro patients treatments which only have a short-lived effect - e.g. direct trigger point release or acupuncture. But they could use their time so much better by giving you the assessments and skills that you need to move forwards."

Any queries regarding this, please do not hesitate to ask us, we are always only too happy to try to help.

Hi -- really pleased to hear that acupuncture has helped your leg. I am afraid to report that when I tried a session of acupuncture I had an awful reaction -- I felt very sick and nauseous and sweating a few hours afterwards.

So I guess that shows us that what works for one person may not necessarily help another.

I do however find that Reflexology has a good effect for me. Helps me to relax. XX

A few year back I had sessions of acupuncture. i have to say it only worked on my neck, but I was told that I would notice any effect or not, until I had had a few sessions weekly. And this was on the NHS so there was no money to be made out of it. after 6/8 sessions as it was just my neck and it allowed me to move it more than i could before they trained up my husband to administer the needles in the back of my neck ad we continued to do it until it can to a head and i stopped benefiting. I would have been delighted to have reported back that i felt some benefit after the first session, but alas i didnt.

Although it doesn't stop the pain, I find Hydrotherapy helps me and have been trying to go weekly for the past 10 years now, but it does help with movement.

Good luck I hope the benefit lasts x

Well I am pleased that you got some relief fro accupuncture but sadly mine was short lived when I was receiving this...everything was fine whilst having the treatment and for at least 20 mins after the treatment ..then the pain came back as severe as it was before the treatment....so I decided that accupuncture was not for me....But nice to know it works for some....Hugs :)

Hello Bev, yes this is a "problem" with having Acupuncture in that it is a short term benefit, this is why we encourage our members to enquire about whether Physiotherapy might be more suitable for them with long lasting effect potentially.

Reflexology is also good for Fibromyalgia as Phlebo mentions, it helps with relaxation which in turn can help ease our pain levels. Seek medical advice first if you are interested in this particular therapy please.

Hi all,

I have been wondering about acupuncture as one of my dogs has it for hip dysplasia and arthritis. She is 8 now and we have had her since she was just over 4 and she had been very badly beaten around her back end, so does not like being touched around her rear end. She has only had 6 treatments of acu. so far and she runs around the fields like a 2 year old. She does have a half tablet daily of pain relief as well.

I jokingly said to my vet that perhaps he could stick a few needles in me and he asked what was wrong with me and I just said Fibromyalgia..I didn't go into any other health probs. He told me that acu. has been shown to benefit Fibro. sufferers and said that he has known a few people benefit. I asked if he could recommend someone but he couldn't remember the name of a practitioner, although he mentioned a small village about 20 miles away where he said there is a reputable practitioner. I can claim some of Jessie's treatments back on her insurance but, sadly, I don't have insurance so I am worried about the cost and also whether it would work for me altho. I am willing to give anything a try.

Now I have the ESA form to complete I am worried about whether my incapacity benefit will be stopped which will make money even tighter than it is. As it is, like many of you on this site are experiencing, my OH and I are finding that we are having to cut back considerably because of the rise in the cost of living so I can't afford to waste money.

Wishing you all a reasonably pain free day.

Love and hugs Saskia. XX

I have acupuncture monthly. It works for ME. I don't need any pain medication x

Hello there Stepper, your Acupuncture probably works well for you as you have it regularly for lasting effect. However some of our members only have one or two sessions of Acupuncture so with the effect not being long lasting without continuity, they find it hasn't helped them particularly.

Hope that makes sense. Thank you for your comments Stepper, most appreciated. :)

Hi stepper,

Thanks for telling me that you have it monthly. I think the cost may be prohibitive for me, as I already have deep tissue massage every week which helps me. The vet (lol!!!) said that acu. combined with massage would prob. be very beneficial for me but it really would be too expensive I think. If I win the lottery........sigh!

Hi really glad the acupuncture works for you. I had it for several months and was feeling much better with shoulder and neck pain. However, like everything else it was stopped on the nhs. I was there was more patients saying they didn't get any relief than those who do. I did then go private and this lasted about a year. It was still working but it was too expensive. My husband was off work with illness and has not worked since. I think the nhs treatment is given in different areas. I am not lucky. Oh I have also asked my gp and she says there is no money available. Well never mind.

I hope you continue to get the relief and enjoy life a little bit more.

Bye for now love Axx

Yeah costs me £50 a month but that includes bio resonance and homeopathic drops, bit I don't have prescription costs. I use simply health so I get most of it back....and it helps with dental etc.

He has used skenar and far infrared thermal therapy too.....so i find it very cost effective....

I have no help from Gp's so its good to have someone I can talk sensibly about it all.

I was lucky to have a far infra red cocoon bought for me which I also find invaluable, and use magnesium baths, which are brilliant (epson salts). I just need to put it on a foot bath if I do ache. I get more pain with hormones so Epson salts still comes in handy.

I take co q10 (from amazon) and cod liver oil....and magnesium and calcium (from boots)

On the whole its all managable now. Just need to get sleep sorted now.

Still on able to work.....but I have my grandson 3 days,a week now.

My diet helps too x

For any of those who are having to pay for treatment, if they are under a pain clinic, i thought that it was all part of what the NHS now provide. can you not check, if you arent under a pain clinic call the local hospital and ask what that department provides and ask your gp for a referral.

i know every county is different, personally i think its wrong and that i feel that we should all be getting the same level of care wherever you live in this country. its just a shame it doesnt work that way in reality.

I have to say, its certainly worth trying acupuncture as i was told right from the outset, it may work or it may not, everyone is different so there is no way of knowing if it will. I started a course of it when i first went onto amitriptyline, so had sort of the benefit of both, but I never noticed any change until after a few sessions, and it was just my neck really that it helped but initially they tried the needles all over me. I felt like a pin cushion.

its always good to hear when at least some are getting help somewhere along the line as it just feels like we are fighting our own life! Dont know whether its the weather with all this snow, but i have been knocked for six this week, i dont think I could face any form of treatment apart from my bed!! xxx
