Don't refuse anything they offer because there will come a day when you need these things then you have a big problem of trying to get re assessed. That unfortunately takes alot longer than you think in fact it may not happen then your in a mess. ( like me ).
I had a assessment a few weeks ago and now I have a bed raise, banister, toilet seat and bath seat. It has made me a little more independent and I dint have to rely on my 15 year old son as much. I also have a walking stick.
what a surprise I have them comin to come today too! but they are here to change a couple of things for me.
they are changing my shower stool to one with a back on, and my bed rail to a double side one. I wholeheartedly recommend!
good luck with your assessment, and Don worry you can always tell them things later that you forget.just be calm, don't panic. and go through your mayonnaise in your head slowly an think if th problems you have. do you need lever taps? something to he'll you get on/off the toilet, in/out of bed?
make . little list while you remember things gun, and let us know how you go!
I got some of the above a while ago and really helped. You might want to ask for grab bars in your shower too. I've got them as have to step into the bath for a shower, so also got steps to help me into the shower. Good luck.
We are waiting for tehm to come out, not for me but for our daughter. All we really need is the bathroom extending and the downstairs loo converting to a wet room for when we have to keep her downstairs. Good luck with it all hun xxxxx
The lady came spot on time and i was only phoned yesterday after sending a msg on Thurs/fri cannot remember and here so quickly.
i gave my condition(s) and no need to think about assessment i was given straight away! wow am so surprised ! i am getting
out side stair rails and side rails and was offered on the house wall rails but i said i think ok as my house is rough brick.
a right sided banister so i have 2 things to hold onto.
a toilet thing hmm not on wall but around the loo as bathroom in such a state from putting shower in , she said no wander got issues.
a chair in the shower which can take in and out for the others in the house as the shower is small half moon shaped.
bed rail (not asked for was given)
a trolley to walk around with for my plates food etc.
a chair with back and handles
even cutlery!! with some sort of spongey handles but was told can send them back if no need for them.
she assessed me up stairs and saw how i did it that was only ting the rest was questions re the family help with cooking and was told the 'little' things ie tin opening accessories which i bought electric tin opener & mother in law got me a ptotaoe ricer which can still be a chore as squeezing togetther .
she saw how my hubby had sawn the bottom half of iron bed off so i could sit on end to look in mirror lol
offered a 'wheel chair' but i said i will see how things go unless i go on days out.
it hit me more going with my 12 yr old to the shopping centre and it really was a strugle of a chore concentrating and focusing on just getting around with my stick.
asked if i had a stick i said yes.
i said when bad i can barely get around though.
said i should receive by end of week with a bit of luck as Christmas next week and to ring as soon as come and set up as she needs to confirm all safe for me to use.
if i need anything else at all to just get in touch.
the outside rails in a week !!! WOW its christmas next week but yet not to think it will happen as busy so could be 1st week of New Year ! but at same time i am speechless.
i so cannot believe it really as i asked her how long before i know i am awarded these things, she was 'what do you mean'?? you have this problem and you are getting them no doubt about it so am really happy and relieved but at same time i did cry in front of her.
she said we do it for children too so dont feel so bad comparing yourself to the 'elderly' which i am around all the time as not being rude but i started to feel this is me not going to last long!
i know thats wrong but i was upset thinking is my time coming soon before am 50! and i am 43 lol
