What happens when DLA runs out?

Some people have DLA indefinitely while others have to claim again in 2 or 3 years.

What is involved once it ends, do you have to start all the forms and claiming again?

Hello Lucy, DLA is being replaced by PIP (Personal Independence Payment). There was an announcement by Esther McVey MP, Minister for Disabled People yesterday regarding this and the way it is going to be implemented.

Please click on the link below for more info. You will be contacted regarding the introduction of PIP and told what will happen regarding your case, time frames etc.

Hope this helps -

this was posted by Akram yesterday, its such a relief if you're already on dla and not due to renew. my hope is they'll drop the pip idea.

You are sent the forms automatically about 4 months before your claim is due to endAt least thats what happens for me and my son.

VG, what happened then? Do you have to start the forms again or do you state nothing has changed?

Just read LIbs link... So looks like I will lose my lower rate care as it won't exist anymore and if I fill in this ... application form ...for my son and it changes a couple of months later and I have another form to fill in I might just tear out my hair, what a waste of paper

Thanks Sandra that gives me a little hope cos if they do away with low rate dla and won't give me higher I honestly don't know how we would manage, if we downsize again our next option would be a garage. My son is up for review but only cos at 16 he turns into an adult .. If they turn him down I will lose the plot.... Just waiting for some bright spark who does these forms to say, autistic, hasn't he grown out of that yet

I think someone posted that fibromyalgia is now recognised by the government benefits.

email admin for the benefits and work info, this explains the questions and there is a useful sheet at about pg 60 that you can print off, fill in short statements about you, copy and give to your gp & consultants. Then, they can use it to answer dla/esa queries.

Hi im going through it at the mo, My DLA is due to run out in Jan 2013, ive refilled in the forms and have had a letter saying they are requesting a report from the doctors, ive been here before and been refused and had to appeal,i went for a appeal board in front of 4 people and managed to win, that was 2 years ago, and now its happening all over again, so fed up the stress makes things worse, by the time i get to the medical board i will be a total mess and break down, but i wont stop fighting the system as i will not be made out to be a lyer and a fake,,,this is a real illness..

this is where so many fall they just don't appeal and the percentage who get their benefit on appeal is very high.

Take care God bless.

Both me and my daughter were awarded indefinite and it appears they are starting with new claimants first. I am hoping we will be okay for a while but they are making it so hard for the new claimants to qualify. I may lose mine in time, not sure but myhealth has actually worsened with lung disease being added since getting it indefinite so I am not sure how it will go. My daughter however has an unpredictable illness so she is more likley to qualify. I would keep going with claiming again for as long as you can put up with doing it. But I guess like ESA they are hoping people will become so frustrated they just give up, saving them the bother. I wish you luck xxxxx
