The only hair loss I am suffering is thinning due to age, but I assume it is due to age. You should get it checked out if it is more than the norm from brushing xxxxx

My docs have basically ignored it just running my fingers threw it come out in clumps, Ive had bloods done and there clear xxx

Hair loss is actually a symptom of Fibromyalgia, but a not so common one.

Stress can cause hair loss as well, it may be connected to the disruptions in our stress-response system with Fibroymalgia. Whatever the cause, the good news is that it's temporary hair loss - the follicles don't stop producing hair as in male pattern baldness or the autoimmune disease Alopecia. The hair falls out, then a new one grows in.

Hi Liberty Z, I have fibro, and very likely hypothyroid, which my dr. dismisses. I am 74 and losing my hair. My Gp says not related to fibro but because of age, but this has only started in last yr. Dr.. says male pattern baldness. I am totally stressed out over other things. Can you tell me if there is a difference between fibr/thyroid loss and male pattern?. I have also lost all

hair from legs and underarms.

I am not sure whether your GP can be that categoric to be honest with you Siskin and I am also unsure of the maximum age regarding Fibromyalgia. I can't see why it couldn't be Fibro related. It seems odd to me to suddenly start going bald as in "male baldness" at age 74. Normally male baldness starts at a much younger age if a man is going to go bald. In my opinion your loss of hair signifies a condition to me. Also if you have lost hair elsewhere too, this would substantiate this comment I think.

Hair does tend to grow back generally with Thyroid and Fibromyalgia conditions after treatment or if the symptoms calm down. However, with male baldness or hair loss per se, hair does not grow back.

To clarify this, I would speak to your GP again as it all seems a little vague for you and you need reassurance. :)

Take care Siskin. (((hug))) xxx

Thank you Liberty Z, sorry haven't responded sooner. My GP is the equivalent of a Luddite but in the medical world.

Two blood tests I had, MCV & MCH, clearly out of range were "In my experience not important" with GPs like that there is no answer.

At one time I would have stood my ground but now I just crumble, too tired and fogged to give a reasoned arguement. :-(

I have lost hair on the left side of my head, where I have pain from my myofascial pain. I don't know why. About 70% of people with fibromyalgia also have myofascial pain syndrome.

Whats myofascial?

in reply to sharne27

Myofascial Pain Syndrome is a chronic condition affecting the fascia (the connective tissue that covers the muscles). Myofascial pain syndrome may involve either a single muscle or a muscle group. In some cases, the area where the pain is felt may not be where the myofascial pain generator is located. Experts believe that the actual site of the injury or the strain prompts the development of a trigger point. This, in turn, causes pain in other areas, a situation known as referred pain.

Myofascial pain is very common in Fibroymalgia cases.

I have thinning hair, can see my scalp. I hate it but blow dry it to give it a bit of a boost, my hair is very fine which doesn't help. I have Hypothyroidism and take Amitrypteline for pain, I didn't realise it could cause hair thinning, I have been on it for years. It has made me thnik. I am 60 and doctor says everyones hair thins with age, but I see loads of older ladies with thick heads of hair.

hI,

amitriptyline can make hair loss a problem as can losing a lot of weight quickly. About 2 months ago my nutritionist suggested I start taking three Omegh 3 EPA and Evening primrose oil 3000mgs or more a day. It seems to be having a positive effect so I'm going to continue. The condition of my hair is also much better and there is a lot less in the plughole after my shower now.

Hi Sharne, Mine starting thinning a good few years ago now, so it could be the Amitriptyline. I also found out I was quite anaemic which can affect the hair, also a side effect of these tablets. y iron levels are okay now but I can't say my hair is any better, but it's no worse. As you are so young I would ask for a blood test to see if your iron levels are okay. As with fibro we feel tired, we can miss other causes. Good luck hope you can get some help, it must be awful as you are much younger than me.
