Me for one ..... But I also have 2 friends who don't have fibro. One friend has 1 child with aspergers .... The other has 2 children with aspergers.

Sorry that's not really helped has it. But you can count me as one with fibro and an aspergers child.

I do , not sure if there's a link though .

My eldest boy (now a man of 29) has Aspergers... I've never heard of a link before tho it's an interesting thought!!

Why would there be a connection... Aspergers is obviously the different synapses in the brain and is on the autistic spectrum but what would be there link???

It will be interesting to see how many respond to this!

Hi, my doctor has told me recently that fibro is a messageing fault of the synapses of the brain which interpret pain. This could be similar to the way people with Autism

do not get the messages right with communication.

Of course... that makes perfect sense. More and more interesting!!

My 21yr old daughter has aspergers. That's food for thought, although I also have friends with children with aspergers but they don't have fibro.

My 23 year old son has Aspergers. I also have friends with Asperger children who do not have Fibro

Should also have mentioned here that tmy GP, who first diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia believes the stress of raising a child with Aspergers on my own (husband shipped out ten years ago) has been a contributory factor in my getting Fibro.

As others here also have children with Aspergers, maybe that is a factor worth considering?

My son was diagnosed as having ADHD although his problems are more complicated than that. He's 22 now and still has a lot of problems that have never been addressed as he has many autistic spectrum type problems. I was once given a book about the links between parents with fibro who have kids with these type of issues so I really do believe there is a link... sorry I can't find the book at the moment but if I ever find it I'll post the details up here.

Certainly it's known that Fibro can be triggered by stress and I certainly went through lots of stress with my AS son ! So maybe that's the link ?

My eldest son, who's almost 30 and doesn't have Aspergers was certainly easier on the stress levels, and youngest son ( who does have Aspergers ) who's now 23 didn't help my clinical depression lol.

Love him to bits but he is hard work personified at times !

My eldest son of 37 was diagnosed as hyperactive when he was little, and I had sedatives to help him sleep as he would be on the go 24/7! I do believe he was ADHD and he has many symptoms of AS although he was never diagnosed for this.

My youngest son (22) has ADHD & AS, he was diagnosed for ADHD as young as 5 years old and was on drugs to control this until he was 18 when he chose to stop taking them.

I've had Fibro for many years, even before I had my eldest, although it wasn't called that then. I come from a family who suffer from Arthritis & my siblings all suffer from it in varying degrees, so there is a link there I'm sure.

Maybe there is a link of sorts, but what I don't know as I know other parents of ADHD & AS children who don't have any illnesses. It would be good to find out if it is connected.

This is interesting, my son is now 36 and dyslexic,

But has many things similar to aspergers

so maybe you are on to some thing

Wow... now this is an interesting question... 2 of my 3 sons have Aspergers, The youngest is 23 yrs. And I had a very stressful time raising them... And had a very stressful time with other family problems too... So I know that's what started my fibro off

Hi

I think as folk are born with autism/asperges and fibro develops the link is in the huge stress that a parent of an autistic child undergoes. I developed fibro over 5 years ago but was fit as a fiddle when my son was born 16 years ago.

Lack of medical support for any condition can and does cause another condition to develop or flourish.

Stress is deffinately a killer.

In my case it just maimed me.

The lack of medical help or support has also brought on a neurological disorder/failure which in itself is worse than fibro on its own. The known cause for this disorder is stress/shock OR lack of treatment for chronic pain!

Circles, ever decreasing circles :(

Its all food for thought isnt it and maybe there is a neurological link somewhere.......

NN :)

My youngest son who is just gone 21 has always had aspergers I fear, plus adhd thrown in, he was never diagnosed, but I worked with a child with aspergers, I was her classroom assistant, but she didn't give much away, very quiet, and studied the autism spectrum, and went on a course, he has a very difficult life so far and I pray it will get a lot easier for him some day, xx

My 25 year old has Aspergers, Bi-polar, slight schizophrenia, semantic pragmatic disorder, bless him, he has just had to have a benefit interview to see if he can do some sort of work so that they don't have to pay him benefits.

My middle child, (son) 24 years is fit and healthy, with only mild dyslexia, lol, a doddle to cope with!

My youngest son is 22 and lives away in a special unit for people with severe communication disorders, he has A-Typical Autism, and has no speech or understanding of the world. The local authority now have me worried sick as they want to bring him back to this area to live with independent living, so not going to work! Plus he is HAPPY where he is.

I brought them up alone as the stress of being married to their farther was too much as he was jealous of all the attention they received from me. I just could not spread myself any further. My fibro started about 6 years ago about a year before my youngest went away to live. Then i started university, now I'm a nurse and very much understand what my patients say when they tell me they are in pain.

Sorry about the rambling, I suppose the answer is YES I have a child with Aspergers. LOL

I have Aspergers and fibromyalgia. My daughter also has ASD. I've encountered several women with both fibro and aspergers. It's true that stress can trigger fibro and both adults with aspergers as well as parents raising children on the spectrum deal with a lot of stress. However, there is a connection to the immune system in both those conditions which is in our gut. It's common for people with fibromyalgia as well as those of us on the autism spectrum to have gastrointestinal issues. I also have GERD and IBS.

Hi Prickly,

Shot out of the Blue I know and I'm not really expecting you to get back to me as it was a year ago since you wrote on here, I too have an interest in Aspergers for a close family member, but I spotted your posting and some of us with Thyroid problems are trying to help others convert over to the other side as it were :)

If you want to help cure yourself of Fibro read on. -

I too thought I had Fibro, I did have Fibro symptoms that were getting worse, luckily I had blood tests and even though they came back as normal I had written a long list of symptoms to read off to my Doctor.

Fibro symptoms are exactly the same as Hypothyroidism.

There is a cure for Hypothyroidism, but not for Fibromyalgia, Fibro is only managed.

Back in the 1960's before blood tests, CFS, Fibromyalgia or ME did not exist. Doctors treated by symptoms only. If you went to the Docs back then you would have been given the diagnosis of Hypothyroidism.

On here HealthUnlocked, go to communities above on the green bar and type in Thyroid UK and just click and join it and ask it's members about Fibromyalgia Versus Hypothyroidism. You can still keep your user name of Prickly.

Good luck.

I have pretty severe fibromyalgia and my son has aspergers. I was a pharmacist and had to go on disability. I have just put myself and my son on a gluten casein free diet. A lot of women with autoimmune diseases have kids on the spectrum. Something is going on!

Hi, my son is 29 and has Asperger's Syndrome, Fibromyalgia and hypermobile Ehlers - Danlos Syndrome (hEDS). So I definitely think that there is a link to them all. I have vascular type EDS and was diagnosed with ME/CFS many years ago, I also have osteoarthritis. Janice.x
