Well survived the rheumatologist and have almost recovered.

Apologies for not letting everyone know how the appointment went yesterday but it totally knocked the stuffing out of me.

Well my fears about the rheumatologist did not manifest as she was absolutely lovely. She asked lots of questions and listened to everything with no hint of impatience. When she had to examine me she was as gentle as she could be using only as much pressure as was absolutely necessary. She did confirm my doctors diagnosis and it is indeed fibromyalgia, but rather than just saying it wasn't her field and kicking me out she took the time to explain what I needed to discuss with my GP. She did order a whole battery of blood tests to try and make sure there wasn't anything else going on. She couldn't state strongly enough that my psychiatrist and mental health care coordinator should be informed and for them to strive with earnist to get my depression more under control as depression and fibro feed on each other and that if they can't get my mood up the fibro will be much more difficult to treat. I don't have a follow appointment but she did put a call back note on my notes if any of the blood work doesn't come back clear.

My sister came with me, not only as support and to confirm that she has witnessed my symptoms, but really to make sure I went in because I hate and mistrust hospitals/doctors and have been known to runners lol.

The whole thing left me absolutely shattered, but once home I couldn't rest that much as I had to deal with mum until her game shows started and I went a layed down for an hour or two.

So, yes, it is now official - I DO have fibromyalgia and have probably had it for some years! -oh joy, more pills! Lol. So I will be hanging around these parts a lot now :-)

hi so glad your appointment went so well and you have the diagnosis @ least you know what you are facing and it sounds as if you have a brill rhuematologist inside, whilst we hate meds i don't think we could survive without them. warm hugs J

Well done you that is a hurdle jumped. At least you know we are all here to help and listen. Gentle hugs x gins

I am so pleased to hear that things went well for you. Take care. Jane x

Your rhuematologist sounds lovely , unlike the one around our area, who as good as refuses to believe such an illness exists.

At least you know know and can adjust accordingly. I agree completely about the depression and fibro. I am really struggling at the moment and my antidepressants just don't sem to be doing anything for my mood.

Looking forward to you "hanging around" more ;-)
