Yes

I went on this after Amytrip too. Best change I made. I take 3 at night.

None of them help me sleep much but the side effects of deadening nerve paths are a real benefit. Hope you get on with them xx

You won't get the weight gain with this one either. Best of luck x

Is there a problem with Amitriptyline and weight gain? I am dieting, swimming 3 times a week and can't lose an ounce.

nortriptylline is meant to have fewer side-effects such as nausea and vomiting than amitriptylline - good luck i hope it works for you :D

Thankyou, Kim, this has really helped! :-) x

Hello

They are both the same medication the only difference is that

Nortriptyline is a bit milder

Hence the end of the drug name is the same ptyline.

I am on Nortriptylline, Started with Amytriptylline, but it made me dream I was on the toilet,(nearly a couple of nasty accidents, Lol!) then I was put on Efexor, Vomiting central! I much prefer Nortrip.

Thanks, midori, my doc said to take up tp 50mgs, if need be x

Oh Midori

I do not want to scare you but whilst Venlafaxine is a very good med at the time when neexdx it us a bugger to come off them due to withdrawl symptoms. I am on them for depression & have tried under supervision to reduce them I end up on a higher dose each time. I ebded up having physciatric care & had to have doseage upgraded by a physciatrist. My highest dose was 375mg & have managed to get down to a comfortable 300mg.

My advice would be to avoid them if possible as they are so addictive.

I hope I have'nt frightened you. I just wanted to share my experience with Venlafaxine.

Hugs

Jac

It's Ok, Jac, I'm a former nurse, so I have a fair idea what I'm in for. If I'm puzzled by anything I ask my pharmacist about addictions and reactions. At My age, (64), I'm not too worried about addictions, I don't have too many years to go.

I'm not scared of dying, it's just part of the cycle of life.

Cheers, Midori

I am on nortriptyline, I have previously been on amitriptyline, and I was only on 10mg of ami and it totally knocked me out until lunchtime the next day and that was with taking it at 8pm.

As I said I am now on nortriptyline and am currently taking 10mg. I have found this drug brilliant and works a lot quicker than ami so I now take it at 10pm and it usually does the trick, not sure if I will need to up the doseage at any point but been on it for two months now and it seems to be working just fine.
